Hello all. I am a few days away from purchasing my first rotary. I've worked on them a little with a friend who had a rx8. The fc apparently only needs apex seals and it'll run. However I don't think that's possible for those to go out and no damage the irons, but like I said I'm a rookie to rotary. My questions are what else should I be looking for? My plans are take out the motor and bridge port it and put my Hx35 turbo on it. He sent me this, "needs apex seals it is full emissions delete. Has 1400 cc injectors, fuel pump custom ECM vmount, intercooler, aluminum racing rad,electric fan. Upgraded inducer wheel in the turbo t17 300 horsepower for a 450 dollar fix"....

believe it or not, it does happen. it all depends on how long the shrapnel gets to swirl around in the engine.

anyway, if you're all locked and loaded with getting this car, it's best to save your questions (and purchases) until you have the engine apart.

Agreed with the above, you will not know the extent of the damage until you take the engine apart. This is why non-running cars sell for so little money.

Although the seals are only about $575, a full rebuild kit is about $1,200. There is a potential for $8,000 worth of damage to the engine, and since you can't drive the car there is no telling whether the transmission, differential, driveshaft, suspension, electronics, or anything else in the car needs to be fixed. If the car is in really bad shape then you can sell the parts on Ebay and make a profit just as long as you don't over-pay for the car. A bridgeported turbo engine is going to produce twice the power of the current engine, which means that the HX35 will be way too small. The 1400cc injectors may work if there are 4 of them, and the fuel pump will work if it is rated for 700-1,000hp, but the fuel lines are going to need to be enlarged or doubled. The chipped ECM isn't going to work, so you will need to upgrade to a full standalone EMS. The "racing" radiator may work, depending on what it is. If the car does not have a Turbo II drivetrain, then that will need to be installed too because the engine will destroy the NA drivetrain. Also, a bridgeported engine isn't very durable, and it is not that easy to drive on the street. Are you sure you don't want to just rebuild the engine and drive it as-is?

Thank you guys for the information.. i checked the vin and it is a true turbo II. Paid 800 for the car, the trans seems ok, it goes into each gear easily. ( i no that doesn't mean much) if i have to put 1,200 into the rebuild kit i will still be under budget. That is very impressive that a hx35 will be too small lol that's a decent sized turbo, or so i thought. I plan to go with a haltech stand alone. I will probably get new injectors to be safe depending on how they look and how the test. Radiator is crappy looking and the intercooler is also. Once i get it running a new rad and intercooler and piping will be purchased. The interior is in decent shape. He took the door panel off for some reason..
