hi im jeremy from okc, and im looking to get my project rx7 started off in a right direction. 1st thing is im trying to figure out what exactly is this white stuff all over the engine bay? the 2nd on is should i rebuild it or swap out for a turbo/n/a setup with a 5spd?
any help or a point of direction would be really helpful. thx

Yikes! I have no idea what it is but I can make a bunch of guesses.

Probably the first place to start is to simply clean it up...

Is there something wrong with the car that you think the engine needs to be rebuilt?

savvanhs_my_girl 05-10-09 03:40 PM

no not really, i do wanna get the pulsation damper changed. but the previous owner said it was coolant, so im gessing i might want to get it rebuild. i do know that the radiator is original the car has 139k on it so could that be it?

RotaryAE86 05-10-09 03:45 PM

well what looks like happened is someone popped off the radiator cap while the car was hot and coolant got everywhere. id clean it up and see if it happens again, it could be a coolant leak it it shows up again

Handful 05-10-09 03:51 PM

i dunno i have never seen coolant turn white like that? Possible it ran over something.

Aaron Cake 05-11-09 09:48 AM

Maybe the radiator just exploded or a hose popped loose? Some weird coolant system sealing additive could account for the white stuff.

Kentetsu 05-11-09 12:03 PM

Yeah, clean it up then monitor for leaks or a return of the white stuff.

jb5365 05-12-09 04:14 AM

Looks like a bad ending to a gay porno flick...

Kentetsu 05-12-09 04:36 AM

And you would know what that looks like because........... :)

I have some of the same stuff in my engine bay. That's blue devil engine sealant or some other type of engine sealant.

SL1CK 05-13-09 01:21 AM

Looks like coolant but like as if they forgot to put the cap back on and went for a joyride.

Yes, it does remind me of some type of block sealant.

fcs3l0ve 05-13-09 07:56 AM

Yeah the same thing happened to me after I used blue devil engine sealant. It spit out all over with coolant when I was putting it in. It doesnt really go away either, you need to clean it up with something but I have no idea what.

No_love_for_pistons 05-13-09 09:16 AM

As a new owner, I'd suggest your first project (and relevant here) is to change your water pump and thermostat as well as replace the upper and lower radiator hoses.... get some fresh coolant in there.

sdolla86 05-14-09 11:35 AM

Yea, most likely radiator fluid.

faytdrifter 05-14-09 08:35 PM

It looks like coolant to me. Check your hoses.

fcs3l0ve 05-15-09 07:55 AM

I've said like twice what is haha. it is block/coolant system sealing additive. I have the exact same stuff in my engine bay. It is coolant but it's mixed with the sealing additve. When you add it to the coolant it bubbles out and gets all the air out and it stops after whatever leak there was is sealed. Judging by the way it looks they used the entire bottle which is bad.

fcs3l0ve 05-16-09 03:43 PM

You can clean it up with alittle wd-40 on a rag. thats what i just did yesterday and it works really well.

jb5365 10-04-09 05:39 AM

I have a vivid imagination...

sandman315 10-04-09 08:35 PM

maby he was armoralling the bay and forgot to wipe it, prolly got high er somethin...but i mean thats just a long shot..id go with what everyone elese said

RotaSpinna69 10-04-09 08:49 PM

Looks like coolant overflow. Use brake cleaner or WD40 and clean it all up as best as possible. Let the car idle and warm up, WATCH the temp. gauge. If it starts boiling over, you know what the problem is. If it doesn't over heat, watch for leaks. You might want to replace the caps, hoses, thermostat, and pump anyways.

jeremy, recently moved back to the area, from LV, NV
Looks like some radiator fluid?? or obviously fluid dried up, it looked similar on mine at one point when i had a radiator fluid, just check fluids, fill them, start it, and see what happens. what leaks ect. if needing help, message back and figure it out.

BigBoss 10-31-09 09:12 PM

looks like someone jizz all over it.

misterstyx69 10-31-09 10:13 PM

Hmm..my guess is that someone pressure washed the car and it got into the cracks at the hood, causing the soap residue to Settle up on the front of the cars engine.
They never Rinsed.

sandman315 01-21-10 02:50 PM
