87 braking problem (pedal hard to press)
Hey folks, I have a 1987 GXL, I went to drive her last night and the brake pedal is very hard to press and hard to stop the car. Fluid good, I checked the power booster and seems to be working correctly. When I looked at the driver side front calipar, one of the pistons was not retracting. I removed the dust boot and re-tightened it seems to be on correctly. Any suggestions?
By the way, I'm pretty new to this site and have found it very useful. Thanks in advance.. |
Wait, did you fix the caliper or not?

had a similar problem with my truck. turned out being something with the brake booster... dont remember what the problem was, but i do remember that it was in fact the booster.

check the booster vacuum hose. it seams to be a booster or master pump trouble.

The booster vacuum hose seems to be working fine but I don't know how much pressure it's suppose to give off. It's not a lot of pressure.
Anyway, I took off all the calipars and going to overhaul them. I also took off the master and it looks okay. I guess i'll take it one step at a time. The car is 23 years old and everything looks like the original. Won't hurt to start replacing eveything. Thanks -Bass |
