86 rx7 upgradin driveshaft and diff
So I was thinking about upgrading my driveshaft and diff but don't know which one to get so I'm just asking for opinions on here. Its a 86 rx7.

i heard the S5 GTU and GXL-SE diffs are pretty good. not completely sure how much mods are needed tho.

Are you looking for aftermarket applications or a better stock alternative?
What model is your '86? |
Why do you want to upgrade and for what purpose?
There's really no aftermarket upgrade for the NA driveshaft, only OEM style replacements. You can have one made at a local driveline shops to whatever spec you want (aluminum, etc.) but why? Just get a replacement with standard replaceable U-joints if you ever need a new one and be done with it. Now depending on what model you have, there may be upgrades for the diff. The easiest would be the LSD from another 2nd gen NA if yours is open. There are Kazz options but really, not necessary for street use. If you need a stronger drivetrain for a turbo upgrade, then the TII drivetrain is what you want. |
I'm just wontin to get a better one for driftin its all stock and kinda new to 7s so Idk what model. I know its got backs seats but I'm removing them it had 2 spoilers on it but took one of cuz it was ugly

You don't need to change the driveshaft for "driftin". An LSD type differential is probably a good thing, which you may or may not have. Since you had back seats, you probably have a GXL which is supposed to have an LSD.
Most drifters do idiotic things to their cars instead of actually spending money, so many of them just weld the diff. |
Oh ok man thanks
|
if you really want to drift the car, weld the diff and beat the piss out of it, look into new diff mounts, urethane would be best. new kaaz = 1500$ minimum. welded diff with new mounts less than 300$ from your local janky garage
|
should I have a LSD for autocross?
|
I'd recommend one for Autocross man. And ok thanks people
