86 rx7 engine cuts off after reving and after idle for awhile
 

My boyfriend and i have a non turbo 86 rx7. We have put a new rebuilt engine in it that is slightly ported. Once we put the engine in it drove around beautiful with little to no problems, the only issue we had was that when you stomp the gas it would bog down and then pick up. We replaced the fuel pressure regulator, thinking that went. Now ever time we rev it up it dies as if someone just turned off the key and it will die after a little bit of idling.

We have cleaned out all the fuel areas ( injectors, fuel sock) and it has brand new spark plugs in it (even try to clean those again).

The car does not have any catalytic converters, secondary injectors, and egr (its blocked off). The car has a megasquirt in it also.

If anybody is able to come up with any ideas we would greatly appreciate it.

what exactly is "slightly ported"? (what type?) also what injectors are you running?

who is tuning the car and how much experience do they have?

it sounds like the car is running too rich.

Street ported....rcengineering 72lb/hr. We have a guy who has been tuning these for a very long time. We think when it was tuned it was being tuned while we had bad parts because we just replaced the fuel pump and fuel sock. A few weeks ago we replaced the fuel pressure regulator.

so you're running only 2 injectors (roughly 756cc each)? what are your plugs saying to you? do you have any AFR information?

are both leading and trailing ignitions firing?

Plugs are firing and they are wet. Afr is reading lean. And yes we are running only 2 injectors. We also have itb's on the engine too.

well, clearly something is lying. :)

what are you measuring AFR with? I suppose the disparity could simply be you're too rich at idle and low loads and too lean at higher loads.

I would have to believe what the plugs are showing you and since they are wet, that confirms you're too rich. whomever is tuning it, have them start leaning out the idle portions of the map.

Well now here is the funny part. We took it down for the guy to tune it and it still wouldnt start. Then to top it off the leading plugs we bone dry. We do not get how it went from being soaking wet to dry. And the guy tune it all up and down for gas. We even sprayed carb cleaner in the intake and it ran off it once, but when we did it again it did not run.

Then check for spark.

We have spark. We are going to have the injectors looked over and hope that its those messing up, but we are still stuck.
