85 RX7, hasn't ran in 12+ years..
 

Hi guys, I'm glad I found this forum. Hopefully some can offer advice..

My father has a 1985 RX7, completely stock. The car was running from what I recall, perfectly; roughly 12 years ago. My father had purchased the car, my mom drove it for a bit and she passed away in 2000. After that, the car was run for a bit and then has sat since then.

Several people have offered to buy the car after seeing it sit in the yard, today I was woken up from my nap from someone who offered to buy it and it got me thinking why not try to get this car back on the road? I have had several track/street toys, but have never owned a rotary.. It's apparent my dad isn't interested in doing anything with it.

I have read over the basics under the thread 'bringing rx7 back to life' - I'm assuming this could apply to one as well that has been sitting for more than two years as the one in the thread.

Is there any other advice anyone could offer? I am clueless when it comes to rotary, anything I should look for or examine before trying to get the car started?

you're probably in for a carb overhaul, a fuel tank rod out, new fuel pump+filter and all new engine fluids at the very least.

even doing most of it yourself the cost is gonna start adding up.

since it's been sitting in your yard for all this time, you probably should get some oil down in the chambers and see if the engine turns freely by hand. be sure to clean up the main power connections (terminals and main grounding points) and check your fusible links.

i completely agree with Lyger though, before you go for trying to start it, you'll want to give the fuel system a thorough go, which may include a carburetor rebuild.
