'84 Stock Radio has been Ruined! Or has it??
 

So I just bought my RX-7, and was rummaging through the pile of bonus parts. The previous owner removed the radio and put in a "Better" system (Pretty much destroyed the entire sound system). I was, however, able to find the stock radio in the pile. Its a big mother with all the cassette glory of the 80's. The backside of it is chopped up pretty bad. Does anyone have knowledge of where to start testing this thing? Also is there a common wiring diagram for this? Thanks.

You can download a factory service manual for free at foxed.ca.Com , that will have the wiring diagrams for you

Even if you get this back together, you will probably not like the quality of a 30 year old radio. I just replaced mine with the cheap XO Vision one. The XO Vision a very cheap radio but sounds better then my factory one.

I made up some pigtails and connected to the factory wiring for power and the speakers. Ran a speaker run from the radio to the bin area behind the seats and tapped in to the factory speaker wiring after disconnecting the factory amps. This way if I ever wanted to go back to the factory radio nothing is hacked.
