I'm looking for experienced input on the direction to take, and will provide as much detail as possible for you:
Background: I was in the market for a beautiful car with aftermarket performance support, and the FD fit the bill. The relation of 2-stroke behavior had me excited with a screaming rotary. I've been behind the wheel of V8/V10 monsters, but this just felt right. I spent months looking for the "perfect" car, but ended up getting too excited and pulled the trigger on this FD. It had 75 lbs compression, a tan interior, and bad paint (later would I find it was a 4-corner bondo sculpture from multiple previous accidents). But I was ready to make it my own. I had the car for a few weeks and had a blast romping through the beautiful hillsides.

Car's death: Long story short, I was going for 1 last ride before pulling the car apart for tires, wideband sensor, maintenance, etc. 40 degree weather+10 year old tires+turbo spooling right at the crest of a hill was tragic. It happened so fast there wasn't time to process. I've never been in any accident before, and it was an adrenaline shock. I was instantly sick to my stomach about the car and assessed it before even assessing myself. Luckily I was completely unharmed.
Original plan: Before the wreck, I was planning a complete rebuild over the winter. I'm mechanically inclined and have access to a full machine shop. Full bridgeport but the current surrounding mods weren't up to my goals. So I was going to need to re-do it anyways with a Haltech ecu, fuel system, clutch, etc. I figured around $10k.
Scenarios: As I'm obviously at fault for the wreck, I'm eating all the costs. I was in it for $16k. Here are my scenarios that I'm conflicted at which is the most financial and educated direction:
1. Sell the car as-is. Use that cash towards the black/black rolling chassis I truly wanted and start from scratch.
2. Use the cash towards the "perfect" car with a blown engine. I'm sure this will be very hard to find.
3. Completely part out the car and do # 1 or 2. I already pulled the instrument cluster and A pillar gauges.
4. Keep this as a parts car. Just rebuild the engine, upgrade the clutch, and find a rolling chassis to swap parts into. The cost to replace these parts (drivetrain, turbo setup, etc) is worth more than selling the car outright. I can upgrade the surrounding mods later. Part out the rest I don't need.
Wow looks like a horrible accident glad you alright man! So my input would be # 2 part the car out and recover as much as you can from the accident. Then after recovering financially and emotionally invest on the right fd the way you would want it. Parting the car out will be time consuming and will take patience but you will get something back when all said is done. Good luck!
Wow, body filler EVERYWHERE! Your crash is unfortunate however seemingly the best situation as there were no injuries or other involved parties. You didn't mention anything about insurance, was the car covered and are you in discussion with them about a payment?
I'd buyback and part out some and pout the rest into a rolling shell.
Wow that looks like a nasty accident... The car can always be replaced, you on the other hand can not, so I’m glad to see only the car was a total loss.
In my opinion I’d look for a decent rolling shell and part out what you don’t need off the original. Gotta ask tho... Why not just claim it on insurance, get your check for it, and buy the car back from them as parts only? Gives you extra cash plus the car in it’s current condition.

Another reason is that I have too many other vehicles insured, and my premium will cost me in the long run. Insurance companies aren't in the losing game. It made sense to take the major financial hit now.

Who cares if claiming your wreck adds points. That is the reason you pay for insurance. Of course the insurance company doesn't want you to do a claim. I would do a claim and get my money back. Do you owe the full 16k on the car still? How many cars do you have insured?
^Exactly. If you're not going to claim it, why did you insure it "fully"?. Why not just the minimum required liability? If it adds points, well, I guess you'll just have to watch your driving for 3 years and stop totaling cars. I find it hard to believe you'll make back 16k in this life time by NOT submitting a claim.
Did you ask what the buy back amount would be from insurance? Would make sense to collect the claim, buy it back for x amount, pull off EVERY nut and bolt, then find a roller.

I'm a bit ridiculous at 7 cars insured. By insurance agent I mean a family friend. He's an independent agent for auto/health/real estate etc who looks out for my best interest. It was a tough decision over the last few weeks to not claim it, and I've already canceled insurance on the car. My current rates are excellent as I've never had any accident of any kind previously. 3 years is a long gamble for an incident that may happen in seconds and I preferred to take the hit all at once.
Car was bought with cash. I fully understand those few seconds cost me about $10k. At the moment I see value in a drivetrain, turbo, and supporting mods that are worth around $6k to me had I purchased these for a rolling chassis. The decision is which way to pursue from here, and I greatly appreciate all your comments. It's nice to hear viewpoints from other owners and not the echo chamber in my head.

I think the jury is out - part out what I don't need for the next car. The front bumper is basically destroyed and has earned a place on my wall of shame, next to the door skin.
