5 beeps on 91 vert

I have searched the forums, googled and tried to find all information possible. I have the dreaded 5 beeps then pause on my 91 vert. I know it is coming from the blue boxes under the steering column (larrger one of two). How can I either fix this, or stop it from beeping. I am sick of hearing it. Some posts are saying it is the steering angle sensor, some are saying it is a SRS problem. If it is the SRS, would a new diagnostic box fix it? How do you troubleshoot the SRS system. I have looked high and low for a 1991 convertible FSM to no avail.

HELP PLEASE!

The S5 FSM is '89-'91. Links are in the FAQ, but here's one I use often: http://www.rotaryheads.com/PDF/2nd_gen/index.html

2nd gen FAQ electrical section: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...72#post5131072

The S5 FSM, body electrical section (15) shows the steering sensor & has some diagnostics.

OMG, that is awesome, thanks so much. I have read elsewhere that in the vert, the 5 beeps were for the airbag. The beeping is coming from the airbag module. I will look through all of this and see what I can find. Thanks a million.

If you can pinpoint the beeping to the airbag control unit, it's airbag related. If the beeps are actually coming from the CPU (next to interior fuse box), it may be what's listed in the FAQ.

The S5 wiring diagrams will also show you what's involved with the airbag system: http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/manuals/S5wiring.pdf

keep hearing a beep beep beep
Probably the power steering computer telling you there is a problem with the system. The number of beeps before pausing will indicate the problem.
1-beep, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of speed sensor signal:
In case broken wires or short circuits occur to sensors or harnesses, the buzzer sounds 60-seconds after the engine speed signal of 2200 rpm continues for 18-seconds.
2-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of engine speed signal:
The buzzer sounds twice and repeats when the vehicle speed signal is missing input and/or no engine speed signal is found (short circuit, broken wire, etc.)
3-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of stepping motor signal:
The buzzer sounds when there are broken wires or short circuits in coils or harnesses.
4-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of the power steering microcomputer:
The buzzer sounds 4 and repeats when there are circuit troubles other than with the micro computer.
5-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of steering sensor signal: Steering sensor is mis-aligned or failed or steering wheel has been improperly installed.
