2018 AST Availability
Hello All,
I have read many of the AST related threads referencing aftermarket options and steps for delete. I have searched for aluminum or metal aftermarket replacements and have not been able to find many options Sites seem to be out of stock or simply do not carry (any longer or never had). Does anyone know of other locations state side to source an Aluminum or Metal factory fit AST? Some listings i have found (clickable links for each below) rx7.com -- Powder coated black rhdjapan.com re-amemiya -- mirrored silver aluminum rhdjapan.com knight-sports -- mirrored silver aluminum rx7store.net -- unavailable ebay.com -- dont really trust much here: rotarywerks.com -- delete kit, looking for replacement sakebombgarage.com -- none listed banzai-racing.com -- none listed Thanks Nick |
You can always keep an eye out here for a clean, used AST. They're not really a wear item as long as the cap's good.

As per your link - RHD Japan RE Amemiya one - works great, I have had no issues buying from them.

I also have an Amemiya one that I bought here used for 80 bucks.
lol sorry, didn't mean to stalk ya. I just kinda scan the latest threads for stuff I might know something about or better yet something I want to learn about. Cheers |
And as the OP mentioned, there is the elimination option. I fought it but it was pretty much forced on me by my choice of aftermarket SMIC. It’s design really didn’t accommodate the aftermarket versions. And going with a new OEM version didn’t seem to make sense. Since proper elimination several years ago with the S5 filler neck I’ve had no issues. And I change coolant annually. |
I have a Pettit Racing AST. It is high quality.

If you have a 'survivor' type car, OEM replacement is also an option. Not sure how much they are these days, but pretty sure they're available. Probably reasonable thru someone like Ray Crowe. I mean...your current OEM lasted 2.5 decades. Every 4 to 6 years depending on how much you drive is probably still overkill. Actually the same with the radiator, which had pretty dense fin construction and probably pretty efficient....if you have a survivor.

It's just a weekend cruiser so won't have many miles annually. I had considered oem, seemed the consensus was replace every find years just to be safe, or after market there and never really worry about it again, but those are good points. I suppose 'hey I'm stock, oh yeah but i did change yada yada yada' is the typical story and not really stock any longer. I have a local parts manager that had been helping me out that I'll talk to about the replacement. I'll be back there next week picking up some solenoids. Oem fit koyo is sitting next to me waiting to go in so prob too late for staying with oem there. |

idiazs has been around for awhile, has a good itrader score and I'll bet he'd do 80 shipped or better after all those bumps. Get er done! :icon16: Radiator, Downpipe and AST are all considered reliability mods for our cars. You're on the right track. |
I went with an OEM replacement which as stated, is a viable option. It wasn’t too pricey and looks nice when it’s brand new. I have an OEM one for sale that has around 8k miles on it and I got it new in 2015. Comes with hoses and clamps (same age). I removed it when I went with a V mount kit. Matt |

Rad, DP AST and vacuum lines were the big ones I gathered from reading through this forum. Car is jdm so DP should be good, and working on the vacuum lines now. Hoping to have it all squared away by the month end, it's really painful to just look at her in the garage as the weather is turning so nice. |

Just gonna leave this here in case someone else is having trouble finding a new AST. :beerchug:

There's a place over here in the UK called TGS Tuning that custom makes his own AST removal filler necks, really good bits of kit and pretty sure he ships to the states.
