2018 AST Availability
 

Hello All,
I have read many of the AST related threads referencing aftermarket options and steps for delete. I have searched for aluminum or metal aftermarket replacements and have not been able to find many options
Sites seem to be out of stock or simply do not carry (any longer or never had).

Does anyone know of other locations state side to source an Aluminum or Metal factory fit AST?

You can always keep an eye out here for a clean, used AST. They're not really a wear item as long as the cap's good.

As per your link - RHD Japan RE Amemiya one - works great, I have had no issues buying from them.

Thanks again Natey (picking up all my threads it seems). I have really considered sourcing used. I assumed if it was upgraded to after market is was likely there to stay, but over looked part outs. I'll be sure to check around for one.

Thanks Tom, great to hear. I liked the poweder black model on rx7.com, but the quality of the RE amemiya appeared to be the best. I was leaning towards that one from the list before Natey mentioned checking for used.

I also have an Amemiya one that I bought here used for 80 bucks.

Because Subarus are a boxer flat 4 engine they have same constant bleed issues as rotaries and so have a stock Air Separator Tank.

I would like to use one of these for a stock-ish look, compact size and all metal construction.

In addition to the variations of the stock Subaru pieces available there are a myriad of aftermarket pieces available in all sorts of shapes and materials because everyone and your mom's gay sister drive a Subaru.

I have a Pettit Racing AST. It is high quality.

I read through that elimination thread and as far as I recall didn't see one post about negative outcomes from elimination. It is certainly an option I would be willing to explore, but all stock and trying to minimize updates. Aftermarket AST and radiator seem to be hard to argue with given their known issues, while elimination could have a different interpretation. Certainly the more expensive route at the moment but trying to hold onto that stock status for the time being.

Good to hear. I couldn't find any new, but will keep that in mind when searching classifieds.

If you have a 'survivor' type car, OEM replacement is also an option. Not sure how much they are these days, but pretty sure they're available. Probably reasonable thru someone like Ray Crowe. I mean...your current OEM lasted 2.5 decades. Every 4 to 6 years depending on how much you drive is probably still overkill. Actually the same with the radiator, which had pretty dense fin construction and probably pretty efficient....if you have a survivor.

Survivor, that's a new term to me. One that hasn't been modified?

It's just a weekend cruiser so won't have many miles annually. I had considered oem, seemed the consensus was replace every find years just to be safe, or after market there and never really worry about it again, but those are good points. I suppose 'hey I'm stock, oh yeah but i did change yada yada yada' is the typical story and not really stock any longer.
I have a local parts manager that had been helping me out that I'll talk to about the replacement. I'll be back there next week picking up some solenoids.
Oem fit koyo is sitting next to me waiting to go in so prob too late for staying with oem there.

idiazs has been around for awhile, has a good itrader score and I'll bet he'd do 80 shipped or better after all those bumps.

Radiator, Downpipe and AST are all considered reliability mods for our cars. You're on the right track.

Thank you sir!!! I had not been at a computer and the forum search wasnt working from my phone so I hadn't got to the classifieds since your suggestion. Contacted idiaz so hopefully one less thing to worry about now.

Rad, DP AST and vacuum lines were the big ones I gathered from reading through this forum. Car is jdm so DP should be good, and working on the vacuum lines now. Hoping to have it all squared away by the month end, it's really painful to just look at her in the garage as the weather is turning so nice.

Thanks Matt, I'm going to look into aftermarket options right now but I'll contact you if that changes.

There's a place over here in the UK called TGS Tuning that custom makes his own AST removal filler necks, really good bits of kit and pretty sure he ships to the states.
