1st gen max wheel size ?
What is the largest tire/wheel size that will fit a 1st gen?
Anyone been able to get 16 or 17 staggered fitments to work? I current early have a 15 inch bbs set up.. Was curious if could go larger with success Any pics with Size info: wheel od, width and offset? And tire size? Thanks! |

Wow that is a very tasteful looking RX7, really like the front spoiler.

Wow 17"... Looks good! Guess they will fit. What's the offset, and wheel width?
Are you running springs / suspension.. Or is it stock height? |
Came with the car, suspension looks stock.

I have 195/50x15 wheels on one of my FBs. That is plenty big enough for me. I have 200 tread wear Dunlop tires on it and they grip very well.

back in the day, i had a friend that ran (actually "installed" is more appropriate a term because the car NEVER actually ran while he had it) 17s on his 1980 with an IMSA-style body kit. if memory serves me, they were something like 17x7s up front and 17x9s out back. i never cared enough to look at offsets and i simply don't remember the tire sizes. while the car made for good photos and conversation, i didn't care for it much. the rears were still too skinny for one and i was also never a huge fan of widebody kits. i have since seen stock-bodied Rx7s with 16s and 17s on them.
so yes you can find larger wheels. i guess the ultimate question is why. i tend to think anything larger will need to be custom in some form or another - custom-drilled wheels or custom hubs/brakes (because of the 4x110 pattern), fender work, etc. personally, i'm a sucker for the 13" stock aluminum wheels. i like them the best on a Gen I. however, if i had an inkling to go larger, 15" is as large as i think i would go. |

245 35 18 and 285 35 18 with 2" 4-5 lug wheel adapters. only problem is it sits higher than stock .... but looks good

The 17's do look good, but I love my 205/50/15s it sits well, I did have to put some spacers on it, but it lines my wheels up with my fenders

The 15" BBS are tge way to go IMO. No offense but 17s on a 1st gen just look awward.
