1990 rx7 flywheel
Hi there i have a 1990 fc 13b n/a and I'm going to be swapping a 13b t2 into the car. I was wondering if any one knows if the flywheels are the same or not. Thanks.

depends on what you are attaching the engine to.
The flywheel needs to match the Trans and starter. You can put an N/A flywheel on a TII engine and run a N/A trans.(use N/A starter,N/A slave) you can run a TII Trans on an N/A engine BUT you need the TII flywheel and starter(clutch slave too). So,in essence answering your question NO,the Flywheels are Different and have different teeth count for the starter.(so you can;t use an N/A starter on a TII trans BUT you can use an AUTO N/A starter for a TII application). also slightly different size. like 15mm clutch face.(225 and 240 I believe) |
Cool thanks for the input. I'm planning on building and using my N/a tranny. So I should be safe then.

You'll be safe until you grenade that little trans and/or rear end :hahano:

mixing ands matching drivetrain stuff is not plug and play as I mentioned.
Your N/A flywheel on the TII engine with the N/A trans and components will work. IF you plan on using the TII Diff though you need to get the driveshaft either made or bought (mazdatrix) to go from N/A trans to TII diff as the flanges at the DIFF end(front diff flange)do not match. |

Since you are S5 then you really have no choice but to Keep it as the OMP hooks up electrically to the ECU and if it is removed then the engine goes into LIMP MODE.
NOW,you can remove but BUT it will cost you the price of an Aftermarket ECU such as a Haltech or an RTEK(a form of Modified Stock Ecu,but programmable if you get the 2.1 version). If you had an S4 based engine then the OMP could be removed without issue as it is mechanical. |
I fail to see why you want to use an N/A trans with the rest of the car being a TII conversion...the trans will cost less than the driveshaft you'll need to make the N/A work, much less the frustration of mixing and matching.

or swap the diff yoke, if you have the old n/a diff still.
