1988 FC TPS values

I have looked through the other threads and I have not found a clear answer. I apologize if I am asking over again. I have 88 vert 52K, bone stock. It was idling high at times. I set the TPS according to the FSM using two voltmeters instead of lights. Both "lights" were out and it took a turn and a half to get one with voltage. I then set the idle after jumping the connector and life was good. Just to study a little further I decided to do the resistance test. On the one side it was perfect 1k closed and 5k open. On the other side it was 5k closed, but little to nothing open. I moved it slowly and the value falls quickly through the range of motion. Do I have a bad TPS? Thanks for your opinions

Not sure what you mean by other side as there are only two wires at the TPS plug which are used to measure ohms. Just try using the voltage method and use the Green/Red wire w/key to on, and w/the engine as hot as it possibly can get (20 minute drive will do), and the voltage should be 1 volt and w/the TPS extended fully the voltage measures close to 4.5 volts.

The factory manual shows you measuring resistance from prong A to B and from prong A to C. there are three wires on my TPS, green/red, black/red and orange/black, but if I am understanding what you are saying if I just measure voltage on the green/red, I get all the answers. That said, do I perform this test key on/engine off?

That's fine, as long as the car is fully warmed up.

Key to on.

1.05 closed, 4.82 WOT. The cars runs fine and idles correctly. Thanks for the help. I am still getting used to this new fangled stuff. If it had a Nikki carb with three sets of points, I would be golden. Is it bad that I think 1988 is new? Thanks again

Anything with injectors is too "new" IMO
