Yes, we are both really happy about this restoration project. I am glad we decided to keep it and bring her back to life. I am having custom floor mats made for it and also a custom cover. I still have some issues with the carb but it is getting better. Maybe over the weekend we will take it into the next city and see what happens. It is a real head turner.

Thanks to everyone who has provided information to me on this project. Without you this would not have happened. I will be addressing other issues with it and will be posting more questions in days to come.

I just came across your thread, looking good. I was wondering where you are in central Illinois. I'm in Pekin and I haven't had much luck finding other rotary owners locally. Keep up the good work, I'm sure your father would be proud.

Pekin huh...Thats funny! I am in Eureka. Not to far away. What do you have?

I have a dark brown 83, I just put a Weber DCOE on it with a Racing Beat header and I got some nice mesh wheels for my birthday that im working on cleaning up to paint. On the test drive my brother and I found out that the spark starts to cut out at about 8 volts on the gauge. Turns out it needs an alternator. Lol

please post some pics. That's great that you're going to keep the car. I haven't had a 7 since early 90's and have missed it ever since. Found one an old man has had sitting for 7 years and am waiting on the title to be sent so I can pick it up. Can't wait to get to work on it making it road worthy again.

Well I had a little set back with the RX. It has been difficult to start. When I get it running and drive it for awhile and shut it off it is still tough to get started. Both ways takes about 15-20 tries. I have the carb off again and I am going thru it. Get lots of hesitation on it also. I hope maybe this next rebuild will fix it. I am anxious to take the car for a little spin out of town instead of just driving so close to home :)

Update:
As of July 5th I am still having issues with the carb. I think I am beyond my skilset. I have a delphi fuel pump on it which I believe may be causing most of the issues, which I think is o much fuel pressure. So I loaded it up on a car dolly and hauled it to a friends garage. this is a picture i don't want to see again. Hopefully by weeks end it will be functioning correctly

I have a 1982 RX-7 GSL. I had the same problem with shifting. I first added more fluid, that corrected it for a while, replacing the slave cylinder I'd the trick works fine now. When you buy your part be sure to be specific for the model year and check it when it is delivered. I had problems with minute tolerance differences and had to send back the original parts.

Amazing car what a find. It's the same color as mine and I'm so jealous to see what my car should look like! Getter' fixed up!

Wow! I bet my car looked exactly like that new, I have a "tender blue?" GS, kinda neat to know what it probly looked like. Like others have said your father would be proud of you doing that, and keeping her in the family. Do you plan to keep it original looking? Maybe add a racing beat header and exhaust to free it up a little?

put a 20b in there !!! It would be a beast!!!

This car should be kept 100% stock. It is a rare piece of history and a true collectors item.
If you spend money modding the car you will actually devalue it.
