13B Triumph Spitfire

Hey everyone,
My name is Link and I work as a restoration technician for a shop out here in the PNW. I've been mechanic for over 20 years spending most my childhood under a hood instead of glued to a TV lol I've been working on this project car with my father in law for a couple years and we are nearing the end of our battle. Right now we just developed a knock under load through the whole rpm range. It sounds more ignition related to me as I know he was mixing gas for a little bit because he didn't think the oilers were working. So maybe fouled plugs. We are getting some NGK's in the next day or two.
I'm hoping it's not a bearing noise that we are hearing. We have had some problems with the guy we got the motor from and don't fully trust the thing. We are prepared to open this thing up and rebuild it if we need to though. Just want to get an idea from people who are use to these motors.

I see you beat me to it. :) I just asked you to make a thread in the Tech forum and as soon as I posted my reply, I saw that you already did.

Anyway, so the gist of what I was saying so far is for you to include the following:

- Carbie or EFI?
- If carb'd, which one?
- What plugs do you use?
- Have you confirmed timing?

If bearings are a serious concern, then the first place you should check is the oil. In addition to draining it, you may also want to cut open the filter and inspect it.
