12a rebuild
i have a 12a street port that has low compression in the front rotor. my question is could i pull the engine and only open up the front housing and just rebuild that rotor?

No. Simply put there are multiple "soft seals" aka gaskets that would need to be replaced after the tension bolts are loosened. You can buy a "soft seal kit" form many of the engine building companies or directly from mazda.

In the 13 years I been working with 12a I have ran through that problem twice. I replace the rotors and rotor housings and all new seals.

thanks guys, what rebuild kit have you used? i cant replace the rotors and housings, too expensive

Rebuild kit
I ordered a rebuilding kit from Rivera's auto parts in Puerto Rico for $756 including shipping. It came with everything except the oil retainer o rings.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/b2.htm Mazdatrix will put a kit together for you. Atkins is complete. Lots of members have used Atkins kits. I'm not sure if they use Mazda apex seals or their own design for the 12a. Have never heard of the Rivera kit before, price looks right. Just make sure what your getting. |

I believe Atkins has their own Apex seals. I'm not sure if they are Mazda but the package says Atkins.
