Man, I wish I still had my fc to go to these things. I've been outta the game for a while now.

Just wanted to let you locals know...

I have a full set of the 5 star rx7 wheels. They all have tires, but one tire is losing air. Some of them still have decent tread. Only asking $40 ($10 a wheel+tire, can't beat that)

Located in Glen Allen, VA.

CALL 804 501 9255 IF YOU WANT THEM! or email swodell@vcu.edu.
...I am not able to get online often.

If anyone in the area is interested Mazda remanufacturing is hiring at the colonial heights rotary plant. I forgot the persons screen name but someone on here asked me before if they were hiring, they are now, 1 position. Pay is ok, we currently work 5 days(M-F) 10 hour shifts but they will probably drop back down to 8 hours in the winter.

How much do you think a job like that would start out pay-wise?

I imagine its $13/hr to start with 6 month reviews and yearly bonus. A typical assembly line job with a foreign car companies starting pay is $13/hr. Benefits are very good though and there are new car perks, so on. Its a secure job if you want one but the pay check isn't amazing at all, I took a pay cut to work there but I needed a job when I moved here asap to be with my wife and its steady.

As for buying the actual motors, all we assemble so far is the rx8's, the rx7s are still from south carolina(cat reman) other then the 3rd gens(new). And we cant purchase the motors as far as I know unless its for you actual car and even then you may have to go through the dealer.

What do the daily schedules look like? In terms of what time to what time and how flexible are they on schedules?

The schedule for right now is M-F 6am-430pm, 30min lunch and 2 15mins breaks. Supposedly we will drop back down to 8 or 9hrs in the winter. Last year a coworker died in a car accident in november and we had a rough month and when summer hit this year demand was high so we had to push to 10 hours to keep up. We managed to buiild as many engines in one week this summer as we did in the month of november lol. We did have to work one saturday this year but they dont think it will happen again unless something drastic happens, but they want to hire asap.

This is really one of those places where Mazda has dropped the ball.
If they would host some certification classes on properly rebuilding the older motors from the FB, FC, and FD they stand to make a nice little profit. By keeping all the older rotaries on the road they have a continuous demand for parts. It also would go a long way to improving the reputation of rotaries if we could get reliably rebuilt motors from at least builders that know what is supposed to be done. Why Mazda doesn't see the potential profit in selling remans for the older cars is beyond me. Kevin Landers gets by quite nicely on just refreshing the motors.
I'd have paid $2500 for a Mazda certified remanned short block 13B for my FC when the coolant seals went on the original motor.
I'm sure the rebuild time at factory is under an hour, as long as you're stick with just rebuilding shortblocks I don't see how you couldn't make money at this. Apparently it's good enough for the Renesis.

Thanks, I'll try those sites. Restoring an 87 turbo that was very neglected. I had a copy of the parts catalog from a micro fische source, but it started at the body section, no wheels, suspension, steering, etc...
