Which Shop Is Best For Engine Rebuild
hey all, im on my way to get my engine rebuilt but im lost on who to take it to. i live in germantown MD, i was going to take it to PFS but have heard bad things and then i was going to go up to KDR and heard bad things about them, so who is left in on the east coast, i also dont want it to blow up on me at 8000 miles from rebuild.

Damn, I was hoping to find some good info here. I have a broken plug AND easy out stuck in L1 that I need to get out. If I have to pull the engine, I might as well have it rebuilt. I was thinking about doing it myslef but I would prefer the car be running when it's finished!!

I think you should not worry about some PFS hearsay from several years ago. Ray is a great guy and runs an awesome shop. I would imagine any bad thing you heard was about Peter Farrell himself and the GMonsen story from long ago. Besides he ( Peter) no longer runs the performance shop. Give them a call @ 301-874-0611

PFS is under new management. So They've got a clean slate IMO. I'm taking my car to KDR for some electrical work here at the end of the month. So I'll have some feedback soon. |
LOL, this thread wont help you much.Get in your car and go to these shops and meet the owners in person .I had work done on my 3rd gen at all the shops listed and they are all very good. But I can resist to throw my two cents in......
PFS, Ray is the man , he can build a great engine , but good luck with the electrionics you have. My experience at PFS was good, a little expensive .I was turned off when they wouldnt install my PFC , and insisted his "purple box " was the best ECU on the market .Thats alot of bull KDR, Dave is like a walking rotary encyclopedia. You cant go wrong at KDR.Dave is up to speed with all the electronic goodies you have bolted on your FD.They expanded the shop and other then one forum member I wont mention, I never heard bad things about KDR. Another idea is , Rotary performance .Bret builds a very solid engine . With all the SCAA experience they have , endurance is deffinatly not overlooked.Unfortunalty the electronics your running may throw them off. I had Bret build my motor and have had it tunned at KDR, and Reactive racing .Demetrious is the best tunner I have meet and you may want to see if hes has time to rebuild your motor also. Good luck |

thanks guys i think that im going to let ray do it, a lil bit on the price side but hey you get what you pay for plus he has his own dyno i dont have to ship the car to someone to take it out and then have him tune it and then ship back just sounds like alot of head ache but i do thank all that put there input in thanks again

smart choice.

Ray is an ace, he will build you a solid engine. Get it street ported! But mark my words when dealing with PFS" get a written estimate" first. Good old Peta is notorious with "extra" charges and just because he’s got deep pockets, doesn’t mean you do. When your done, I would still have Demetrious street tune it.
|
hey forcefed0 7 im a lil lost i thought that you had to have a dyno to tune how do you do it without the dyno, i talk with dee and he said that he didnt have the big stuff to do alot of things but he could tune, i didnt know if you could tune without a dyno most people say to do the dyno right?
|
You don't have to have a dyno to tune a car. Having a dyno allows you to but the car under load across the complete rev range in the higher gears without endangering anybody or breaking any laws. It's not safe or legal to stretch 4th gear out on any public road. Track tuning is good, but can be very time consuming/expensive. The idea behind having a chassis dyno is to efficiently get the tuning as close as possible. Having that done correctly you should only need to make minor adjustments if any when you go to the track.
