OBD reader needed near Bel Air
 

Any of you Bel Air local guys have an OBD reader and know how to clear codes? I got a code on my new car and well, everything points to me being an idiot and not tightening the gas cap properly, but I'd like to clear it out and see if it comes back on its own.

You can borrow them from Advance Auto, AutoZone, PepBoys etc...

yeah, most auto stores do a diagnosis for free.

they read the code, but wouldn't clear it...

Correct the problem. 20 or 40 warmup cycles should do the trick.

I did correct it, I think at least. I definitely re-tightened the gas cap, but the problem is, I only drive it once a week (if that). Didn't want to wait for 4-5 months for it to clear out on its own.

I have one, but for the drive down to VA, I'd think the fuel cost alone would be enough to buy a cheap one from harbor freight.

looks like I may have access to one this weekend... definitely need to add this to my list of "stuff to buy"

the specs at the link you sent me lists that it will only read up to a 2003 for my vehicle mfg. my car's an '06. i think that might be a problem... its weird because i thought all OBDII had to be the same code/read etc. but it lists up to 2005 for GM.

what kinda car is it? If it's an 06 vette then you need something that can do CAN i believe... gotta double check that.

Edit... heres a better answer:
The C6 uses CAN (Controller Area Network) (which GM calls GMLAN) communications rather than the SAE PWM communications (which GM calls Class 2) at the OBD-II port. So you need a scanner that handles CAN. The AutoXray 4000 does, I know some other units that do but don't have a list handy. CAN is being phased in as the standard to replace the old mess of 4 or 5 different "standards", I think its required for 2008 but GM is getting started early with the newer models.

Edit, I dunno why I thought that... 2008 requires that all manufacturers convert over to CAN so chances are whatever your car is (you're being too vague...) is CAN already.

Its pretty much null-and-void now anyays, as I find myself no longer needing to purchase one. I looked at the mfg specs for yours and it said 199?-2003 for Lotus. Thanks for the offer though.
