md safety inspection?
 

I just failed my md safety inspection because of my open k&n intake and other mods. I was under the impression md didn't do a visual check? Luckily I still have all the stock parts so I can put it back together pretty easily, but it'll kind of suck... Especially if I have to use the stock ic, ecu, and boost control. Oh, and the downpipe, that ones going to really suck to replace with a pre-cat.

the PROPER places do a full checkover and will nail you on the smallest thing. my car got helpd up for a few days cuz the headlight switch on my supra wasnt clicking into place. also note that officially aftermarket mufflers are not allowed either. supposed to have OEM, but MOST (as in 99%) of inspection places dont care or dont know.

if you hunt around you might find someone who will be a little more lenient towards yer inspection, but you def want the safety part of it being thorough.

first place i went to got me about my muffler but completely didnt notice my front ball joints were BEYOND dead.


on the plus side. you only have to get the reinspection on the stuff that failed. so if they missed it the first time and checked off on it, you dont have to worry about it the 2nd time.
and sometimes theyre too busy to do a fullover reinspection and just take a passing glance that you attempted to fix what they told you to.

I miss DC already... So I guess I will have to put back together the stock intake and ic (yuck) at least. The only other problems they noted were my windshield wipers and power steering belt. He said they just need to take a look under the hood to re-inspect it so maybe I'll take my chances with the downpipe and exhaust.

sounds like yer golden since looks like he ignored yer exhaust system.

I have never found anyone that follows the inspection law to the T cuz otherwise there would be severe fines for people upgrading their turbocharges cuz it legally qualifys as tampering with an emissions control device.

I had a modified CRX SI inspected at place in Lanham,MD.
There was a whole laundry list of deficiencies.
My momo steering wheel was too small, 15" wheels were too wide (tires slightly beyond wheel well), something about O2 sensor.
Really got hammered. Had to get black market inspection sticker

^^i need one of those i took off the big red rejected sticker like a year ago and never tried inspecting it again lol

My fd failed inspection once because of exhaust, front strut and no battery "tie down". The next day i wiped off the little bit of fluid that was on the strut, got a tie down and took it to a beat up looking place and they passed me with my exhaust:) Had my k&n filters and everything. it totally depends on the station.

Try another place, they failed me because I had the momo pedals installed!!!

Haha... Some dipshit at a garage in Laurel failed my Cherokee for an aftermarket Trans temp gauge saying all Aftermarket gauges are illegal (Even if they are using their own seperate fuse box). Needless to say, I told him to fuck off and went to a shop down the street where it passed fine.

It has everything to do with the mechanic and how much he thinks he can bend you over for, not necessarily Maryland law.

The thing that pushed these guys over the edge was that the input to my air-pump didn't have the hose to the airbox so it looked like it wasn't hooked up at all. I might try just putting back on the airbox and battery (they freaked out when they thought I had no battery) and finding a friendlier station.

How much did you guys pay for the safety inspection? This place was like $80 I think, but they said no charge for re-inspection.

they just want to force you to fix some thing so they can rip you off.

I am not sure you have to pay them if you fail the inspection. oh, yes, if you fix the items there, no charge for re-inspection.

I'm planning to "fix" everything myself, so we'll see if they honor the free quote. Though it does say right on the bill that a re-test is $26.00.

The shop by my house is 45 and only fails for REAL safety issues. Brakes, Suspension, steering, etc...

They even passed my one T2 with a blown engine.

how? I thought they need to test drive the car, at least. can't imagine they push the car into the shop to check the headlights.

It ran on one rotor, barely. They didn't complain about it.
