Main Fuse for 1990 RX-7
 

My 1990 RX-7 convertible won't start. Thinking it was the battery, I tried charging it from another car. That did not work. However, I then noticed that the main fuse was blown. I may have blown it when I was connecting the batteries. I tried to remove the 100 amp main fuse just like the ones next to it that have plugs so I could replace it. No luck. I broke the fuse. Does it have plugs like other fuses? If so, how can I pull it out (I've forced it quite a bit, which is why the plastic broke)? If not, how do I replace it? Must I disconnect the battery while doing all this? Help!!

By the way, when I get it started it will be for sale. It's in very good shape and has about 120,000 miles on it.

There are two small plastic flaps on each side of the fuse box, then two 10mm screws on each side of the the 100A fuse. Once you take them off the fuse comes right out.

Update: I bought the fuse at Autozone for 2.50. Its's no big deal. I checked all my other fuses and made sure everything else was working, so far everything is fine.

I blew mine out by placing the terminals backwards. It was a very stupid mistake on my part, but that was the price I paid for rushing myself.

yeah i dropped my alt trying to make my belt tighter and the fuel blew to hahaha i pull the shit outta the fuze with a tool like a tool then i noticed that 2 lil black flaps shit happens

man, this thread saved my life. i broke my fuse and was searching around for the whole replacement piece, which would have cost me some $$. thanks!

haha thanks to both of you. do you need to specify its for the RX-7 or will a general 100 amp fuse do? and this thread helped save me. geetarstar...i did the exact same thing. im so used to red being (+) and black being (-) me and a friend were too occupied, plus this was at 11 in the nighttime in the summer so we rushed it and fuc**d up. thanks again tho. as of recently, its been sitting on jacks cuz im too lazy to go out and get a new 100 amp fuse, and new battery wires.

Part of the Confusion about the Polarity of the Battery cables is Due to the Stripe On the NEGative Terminal..The BEST Way to Fix that is with a Small Piece Of RED Tape ..wrap a couple turns to the Positive Cable,and Problem solved!,No more "oh,no..I connected up the cables wrong!".It Happens to Alot of People,so Don't feel bad!..( I have this habit of Disonnecting the Negative when I work on the car.I stick it between the Coil wires )
