That's odd. Are you sure there wasn't anything else that was done? If it bothered you that much, you should mention it to them.

Dave currently has my 2nd FD for an LS2 swap. He was extremely knowledgeable about it and I do trust him a great deal.

I didn't get it directly from Tony because I didnt know he was getting rid of it so I ended up buying it from minooka Subaru after he traded it in. But yeah it was Tony saccos old wrx.

Yeah it was his. I put a lot of time and money into that car. And then traded for this fd which I got screwed on cuz not it's gotta be rebuilt.

I've only been to ians once. Seems like a good dude. I had him inspect my greddy 18g when I got it to make sure it was good still and not in need of a rebuild. Do they do any tuning? Or do you have any recommendations for tuning a rotary?

He doesnt have a dyno so tuning is out for now.

KDR or speed1 is where i plan on taking my car when the bugs are worked out. Dave is a really good guy from my experience there.

Dude thanks for the report! Yea man that FD is a real POS. When I finally saw the car in person, it wasn't quite what I was told it would be but it was fairly cheap. The car needs alot of work and of course, me being the idiot, I'm going to give it the attention it needs. As for what else is being done before the swap, mmmm I'm getting Ohlins on there and misc. other tidbits I have to ship over to Dave ASAP.

I'd love to own 2 rotarys but the only shop I trust is a small house and I don't think I could handle the turn around if the worse case happens and both cars are down. Plus, I need at least one car that is as close 0 maintanance as possible and well, who wouldn't like to own FDs that are as different as they can be!

I don't know who is doing the swap. Hopefully I'll be able to get it early enough where I can take it to a bodyshop to pretty it up enough where I can vinyl wrap the car and make it look somewhat less shameful hahah. At the very least, it's going to be a fun car to beat up on. I miss when my FD was a POS VR car I didn't mind getting rock chips on!

Usually I don't get involved in these threads but I don't like when facts are inaccurate so I will clarify.

We are not a few guys working out of a garage. We are a very well equipped performance shop operating out of a 2000 sq ft facility. We can provide everything automotive in house short of body work and paint. We do everything from basic repairs to complete custom fabrication, engine building, porting, mig and tig welding, machining, etc. Although I do have other full time employment as an officer, I am at the shop almost every day with how I work my schedule. We decided long ago to operate by appointment only to allow us to focus on our extensive projects.


Jay (Soccermach5), you came in asking about set of D2 coilovers, which I strongly recommended that you reconsider. I have many years of experience with many different suspension systems and advised you that they are poor quality. I recommended you step up to something like the Apexi EVX or something similar that would only have cost you a couple hundred dollars more but offer a much better ride and build quality. You decided to purchase the D2 coilovers regardless and brought them to me to install.

I normally quote 4-4.5 hours for most coilover installations depending on type/style. The coilovers you provided did not fit properly. As I recall I had to modify the brackets to secure the brake hoses as they would not properly clip in. Another installer may have just left the brake hoses loose and vulnerable to get caught in the wheel, control arm, or other suspension part. We do not operate that way and do not perform sub par work. We also do not warranty customer provided or used parts and are not responsible if they are faulty.

You were charged a total of 5.5 hours for the coilover install which included an extra hour of my time to allow the brake hoses to fit and to set the ride height. Every single coilover as you brought them to me was set at a different height which took additional time which I did not charge you for. I do not know where you got 7 hours from.

You also requested a compression test which we charged you $100 for. We have the Mazda compression tester which cost us around $1600. The sensors wear out and are expensive to replace. We have replaced the entire unit twice....the cost of the compression test pays for the tools use and maintenance. We do not do compression tests for profit. We offer them as a service to our customers.

You requested we remove a turbo timer and Apexi AVCR boost controller installed by someone else. We charged you 1 hour each which involved soldering and heat shrinking all the wires that were cut/spliced into back to stock.

The car came in with an intermittent no crank/start issue that we noticed while under our care. While removing the boost controller and turbo timer, we found you had a very poorly installed alarm. There were various splice connectors, taps, and even some wires just twisted together and taped. We charged you an additional 2 hours to repair that wiring.

Finally, we recommended you replace the tie rod ends which were torn, and have us align the car. You declined both.

Most any professional automotive establishment bills based on book time, not actual time that it takes to perform the service on the vehicle. If book time says it takes 20 hours to remove and replace an engine, that is what is charged. Unless unforseen circumstances arise or additional work is performed (such as in your case with the brake hoses not fastening into the coilovers properly) it doesnt matter if it takes 10 hours, 20 hours, or 30 hours to complete the job, or how many technicians work on the vehicle. The customer gets billed for 20 hours. If you did not understand this I apologize. That is how we operate. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them or post a copy of your invoice. Thank you.
