Just bought a 2005 White Rx8

Hey fellas,

After the last few NE meets I really started thinking about getting an rx8 but did not want to let the FD go. As the FD gets modded it becomes louder and more powerful and sometimes not the ideal car to be driven daily. The rx8 fills that void nicely even though I will get my ass handed to me driving the 8.

It's a white 2005 Grand Touring with 9,500 miles. Attached are some pics. Thanks to Rx794 and Jason (nycrotaryrocket) for helping me look for this particular combination.

Attached are some pics, pay close attention to the back seats ;)

Congrats, a CYM and a white 8, sweet :)!

ZumSpeedRX-7 09-18-06 09:07 PM

much more practical then a FD, but yea, you will get your ass handed to you. i got my ass handed to me by a Civic Si in my mom's 8, from a dig. it's great once you get the RPM's up, though. and it handles pretty well. is that a custom set up or factory option with the white with red and black leather interior? it looks really good. are you still holding onto the FD?

ErnieT 09-18-06 09:42 PM

Now just pull the motor and drop in a 20B and your set! Perfect street king! lol...nice car.

SayNoToPistons 09-18-06 10:13 PM

Sweet! matching baby seat. see you on the road and rx8club.

treceb 09-18-06 10:28 PM

nice. love the color combo and matching lil rotorite seat.
please let me know how "fun" it is to drive that thing around. ive been kicking the idea in my head to get another car. would like to stick to mazda, preferably rotary, but that ms3 is sure looking nice.

Rx7aholic 09-19-06 07:07 AM

Very nice choice I have been thinking of the 8's too but not sure if I want to let the 7 go? I am die hard Mazda fan and I like the baby seat up because I have 3yrs old who will benfit from that, I guess Mazda was correct about die hard Rotary heads will look in other directions once the baby's come along and speed might be 2nd on they list.

I like the car seat. How much room for the little ones legs when someone is sitting in the passengers seat?

ROTARYROCKET7 09-19-06 08:54 AM

hey anthony congrats, i really do love the red/black interior looks hot. Glad you got this one and not the yellow one. Well now i will start seeing you more at the meets, cuz that yellow fd is skeeeeeeeeery. Check out the pics of the meet i got some nice pics of yer car. Here are a few.

Thanks for the pics Jason!

John64-there is a lot of room when the passenger seat is moved up a bit. You could also get a smaller seat but that one matched the interior so I got it. We use the truck to get everywhere but just got the seat just incase.

Thanks for the comments guys and Ernie, I see you soon in an 8 as well with the kids and all :)

As for the FD, no way I'm going to sell it. The only reason for the 8 is my six year old always wants to go in the FD for a ride but with the cage and all, there's no way that's going to happen.

Not to be a debbie downer, but with all the Rx8club horror stories of fellows on their 2nd and 3rd transmissions and some on their 3rd engine, I would have bought a 2007 Rx8. I've read that all the ECU bugs as well as the Oil metering pump bug have been worked out.

With a 2005 model I'd take it immediatly to the dealership and have any recalls done as well as any ECU flashes taken care of.

They are beautiful cars, however I wish Mazdas' quality in engineering was more on par with Nissan.

Thanks for the advice. Before buying an 8 I talked to a lot of the owners etc almost all of them had no issues. I actually think it was good of Mazda to extend the powertrain warranty for an additional year, it was the right thing to do and they did it.

As far as the recalls, I am taking it in to Mazda within the next week to make sure all is ok with the recalls. I posted a thread on the rx8 forum asking for Mazda dealer recommendations.

I appreciate your post since it's good advice to anyone buying/bought an Rx8.

Absolutely. I went through the process of researching an Rx-8 many times, I can't bring myself to not daily drive my FC however.

I wouldn't know what to do with all my spare time if I owned a new car.

sweet rx8 I am thinking of getting one where did you get it and how much...

RX794 09-20-06 08:49 PM

I didn't see this thread till now, CONGRATS!

sintri 09-20-06 09:32 PM

the white looks nice, my friend's family has a silver, though rx8s are way too common around these parts.

Sobr609 09-21-06 05:08 PM

haha..you said even though you get your ass handed to you..just do some reliable little mods..nothing big..and the rx8 shouldnt be that bad..

There are only a small handle of people on 3rd transmissions, and I'm almost positive every single one of them is turbo'd. The people on their 2nd transmissions are from all those flat-shifting, chirp 2nd+3rd people. If you drive it like you care, you won't have any problems..

That, and redline tranny/LSD fluid works wonders :-D

Yeah. Go to the dealer and have all recalls done, newest PCM flash, and you'll be all good.

To the above..I don't know HOW you can lose to a Civic Si in an 8 :/ Unless it was substantially modded..? Oi, that'd be a heartbreaker. Lol..

Heh talk to CJ about his transmission in his 8 if he still has it. He's on his third, and his has an intake, and thats about it for engine mods.

Jay7 Nyc 09-22-06 02:15 AM

Anthony, geat choice on the white with red interior. Okay okay you can now have my red interior if we can trade seats ohh and that means the child seat too..!!! lol Kudos!!!

Seriously. I have a new Si and its fun and all, but I think it runs high 14s stock. Lots of aftermarket out there already though.
