going to the strip today... advice?
like it says, im going to the strip this afternoon (1/8mile strip in manassas)... its a b-day present from my friends. this is my first time running on a prepped track... ive launched my car before on the streets... but i know its a different story. usually i slip the clutch at 3k... but i wanted to know if anyone on here has any advice.
mods are: Street port intake 3" DP, MP, CB RB srpings, swaybars ACT Street/Strip clutch (which smells when i slip it) Yokohama AVS100 tires G-force ECU (though that wont make a difference... im just running a bit richer) 11psi anything would be appreciated |
Good luck out there. I just went for the first time myself on Sunday at Budds Creek (1/4 mile). First run I didn't adjust anything and ran a 14.5. Then I let some air out of the rears and softened my rear suspension and ran two runs of 13.2 @ 108. Don't be afraid to pop the clutch when you see that last yellow. My best reaction time was still .4, so next time I'll practically try to red light. I didn't launch above 3500 rpm just to make sure I didn't break my back end. If you have street tires, I wouldn't bother with the burn out, just drive around the water box. I'm ordering ET Streets for my old stock rims. Have fun!

Oh yeah, if you start to get a lot of wheel hop...back off! Don't pop the clutch so hard.

hey,
I live right out there... I dont know if I will make it today but we should try to organize it to get a couple out there once and a while |
^sounds good. and thanks for the tips

I have heard that you might want to try a 3k rev and feather the clutch with 3/4 throttle out of the hole and then gun it.
|
ive practiced that on the street (parking lots actually) and whenever i do i smell clutch... maybe im giving it too much throttle.
ive heard that feathing out from 3k works the best. how often do you run your car? |
I am going to be running it alot more once I get the new setup in and tuned.

doesnt matter... i didnt go yesterday thanks to the rain.
as for launching that high... i heard it wasnt good for stock Diffs. if im gonna dump i might as well do it at btwn 3k-4.5k... once i get the chance i'll see what works for me. |
dont dump the clutch any higher than 4k on street tires (speaking from experience) feathering the clutch may not be the fastest way off the line but it helps the rear diff by eliminating the chance of wheel hop
