you are the customer. These days customer service is important, and if you don't receive it, you can go elsewhere.

Being patient is great, but as I'm pretty laid back, I do feel that some try to take advantage of the patience and prioritize others that give them a hard time ahead of me. This is mainly with contractors, but applies to car shops as well.

You've been patient, another week or so won't kill you. I'd call them, ask for a firm timeline, if they won't give you one, then take your business somewhere else. If they give you one, and you feel it's sincere, then make sure they understand that you expect status updates.

Most importantly, don't let a dollar out of your pocket until you see progress, never let them get ahead of you in the payment. Once they have the money, they have less motivation, this is nothing against any shop, that's just how many businesses operate and inexperienced customers that don't protect themselves can sometimes feel taken advantage of.

A great number of shops give what the customer wants to hear, but in reality, not what the shop is going to do.
Took our car in for paint, told two to three weeks. Although I saw the car wasn't touched by looking at the shop through a bus parking lot, I gave them a call and asked about the progress as it's been over two weeks. Their reply, it's coming along. I drove the car out the next day.
It's now at another shop, they told me about three weeks. It's been two weeks and the car hasn't moved. Same spot next week it's coming out.
This isn't nickle/dime paint work, it's @ $6500.
Guess the shops don't need the business, make enough from insurance work.
Good luck!!!!

IMO , get in your car and go talk to them face to face. 1st you need to make sure the car is being take care of. 2nd they cant lie so easy in person. Lot's of horror stories on the forum about cars falling into "black holes" most are due to the shop is over there heads and are not qualified to make the mods or repairs. A shop will never fess up say they don't know how to fix something and you do not want your RX7 be there lab rat. Did you give them a detailed list of the work to be done ? If so bring over another copy and go line by line with them asking for estimated cost and date it will be completed.

Without a date assigned for completion for each task it's not a project its just a dream. Good luck !

Ready in 2 weeks ?

I'm curious as to the shop.

On the one hand, quality work is worth waiting for.

On the other, you always have options.......

Time is money and correspondingly should be negotiated as well as the price. Good shops are usually backed up and it can take a while, but they should communicate that fact up front and not string you along. That way you can decide to be patient or go somewhere else. Honestly, i think people are trying to be responsive and don't want to acknowledge there could be a wait. I am generally okay waiting, but want to know up front it will take 5 weeks or longer so i can plan for that. If i'm told 2 weeks that then stretches out to 5+, that's the problem.

And for what it's worth, it took around 3 months to get my engine rebuilt, which i was okay with because there was good communication and i was not in any hurry (making other repairs).

the car is at a shop with over 25 years in the rotary game and many loyal customers and great cars that I have seen so I am not concern about them not being able or doing a hack job I was finally able to get ahold of the shop after a few calls(left a couple of messages and no returne call) and 8 weeks(7/29) and the motor is finally out and was told it should be open in a few days and we should know what needs replacing and what price should be around and I should get pics as soon as it is open I don't mind waiting just be up front don't string me along I would of had no problem if I was told it's going to be a bit befor we can get to it I would of let it sit in my garage covered till they could get to it not of dropped it off to sit out side till they could get to it

Can't be KDR/Speed1, they do answer the phone, or return them at least.

The whole pictures things, I've never had a shop send me pictures of the progress, even tho it was discussed prior to dropping the car. All in all, if you trust the shop, there shouldn't be a need for pictures.

Word of advice, as soon as you hear about your engine/parts ACT ON IT ASAP. If you make the shop wait, they will jump on another project. That means that your project/work/engine lost its spot.

Yup, no point in complaining about an un-named shop. Spill it.

I've def waited on shops for a long time, when I'm waiting on work that only they can do, or only they in the convenient area can do, but if that isn't the case, exercise your options.

My car sat at a paint place once for a few weeks, right outside where I could see it when I drove by on my way home from work, while they told me they were working on it. I just used my spare key and took it and didn't say shit.
