OH Central Ohio - Columbus Area

Are you in the Central Ohio Columbus area? Do you need a new friend? Do you like wrenching on cars and bullshitting for hours while drinking ice cold beer? If so, then just like Randy Newman, "You've got a friend in me."

Ok awkwardness out of the way. I have a couple of RX-7's and don't have any RX-7 friends in the Columbus/South Columbus area or even Ohio for that matter. All of mine are back home in Michigan. I am currently working on a turbo vert project and I am trying to get this thing knocked out. I would greatly appreciate it if someone wanted to come give me a hand putting it back together and get it running. Engine and trans are already in the car. It would be cool to gain a friend/friends out of this as well as someone that would want to go cruising and do other car stuff throughout the summer. Shoot me a reply on here or a PM

List of my current cars:

1987 LS3 FC drift car
1990 Turbo Vert
1994 SSM FD

LOL, funny! I'm in Lancaster! I have two FD's and a FC. Let me know if you have any questions on anything.

Nice you're about a half hour from me. I'm actually in Circleville. Two FD's you say. That's impressive. I just got mine back in April. Had to rebuil the engine after buying it. Was not happy lol. Currently has an ignition issue I'm in the middle of sorting out.

I'm almost done with my LS3 drift car and I have this vert project that I started a over a year ago and has been put on the back burner. I've actually been trying to sell the vert as a project car, but not many people are biting. So I figured I would just finish it and sell it for more.

Is there an rx7 club or group down by us? I haven't seen too many since I moved here 3 years ago. Largest collection of what looks like non running rotary vehicles I've seen has been at the zoom zoom store on 104 by 71.

Both of my FDs are down at the moment actually. One needs a rebuild and the other was a roller when I got it. I recently just got an FC with a 20B from a friend that needed out of the project and I am trying to decide which direction to go with it. I'm in the middle of pulling the engine out of it now for inspection and a rebuild eventually.

There aren't very many rotaries around like there used to be. Check out Ohio Rotaries on Facebook. Yes, there is the Zoom Zoom store which was once affiliated with the RX-7 Store back in the day I believe. There is also Defined Autoworks in Pataskala.

20B project is quite the undertaking. I helped one of my friends back home with his 20B FC swap. It was a lot of fun. He has it pulled right now and maybe one day will make its way into his FD.

If you need a hand with your projects I'd be happy to help. I take it you do all of the engine building yourself?

I may take you up on the offer for help. I don't do any of the engine building, but I've got an extra 13B-REW I plan on cracking open for the experience. My plan is to take the 20B and 13B-REW to Defined Autoworks this Winter for rebuilds. Recently I became a new homeowner, so a lot of my time has been spent on the house, but tonight I pulled the 3 rotor.

Nice work. I hear you on the homeowner stuff. My wife and I bought a new house last year and we added onto our shop, so that took up a ton of time along with all of the other projects (still ongoing). So I get trying to find the time. That's kind of where I am at with the vert project.

Before I rebuilt my 13B-REW in July I had only ever torn down the engines. It was pretty cool building one and it wasn't hard at all. I'd say the hardest/most nerve wracking part for me was clearancing the side seals and not taking off too much. If you have a good FSM you can do it.

Sold my vert project yesterday. Glad to get that one out of the shop. Unfortunately now I have to rebuild the engine on my FD for a second time since July. I'm 99% sure that my front rotor side seals are broken again, just like last time. The only thing I didn't change when I rebuilt the engine the first time was the irons. I was worried about how big and the shape of the intake port was on the front iron and I'm pretty sure that is what caused the failure the first time. I'm going to buy the large street port template from Pineapple Racing and if it's bigger than that or not the right shape then I know that it needs to be replaced. Hoping to be able to tear it down soon. Need to finish insulating my shop before I bring the car in.
