Anyone near dinwiddie/colonial heights/richmond VA?

Anyone in the dinwiddie/colonial heights area thats on here?

I just got my t2 project that I'll be working on for a while, hoping to get running by spring/summer.

Wondering if there are any cool local rotorheads in the area.

I am attempting to set my FB up for autocross and track days. Got a couple of suspension mods but the 12A is stock port. Have a street port on the engine stand for when the stock port ever go out on me.

Did you rebuild it yourself? I've always wanted to rebuild but Id rather have a known builder do it

Yes I did back in 2007 or so and it is still going. Got lucky with my rotor housings being usable for the rebuild.

How hard was it for you to rebuild, was it your first?

I would rebuild mine but I don't have the tools or any experience.

However I will have two blocks to tear down if I decide to do a rebuild so I should have all the usable parts I'll need.

I'm trying to figure out if this spare block I have is worth using, it has alot of end play but I'm told it could be fixed by removing the front cover and fixing whatever is wrong.

The compression sounds good from hand turning it, apex seals all look intact , no rust inside just lots of carbon...just the end play issue as well as the fact it supposedly has 160k miles (junkyard said).

I want to use it if I can so my car will run/drive , if not I'll have to do a rebuild and will need more money to do it.

Really? Huh. sorry about that. I've been trying to stay on top of that thread.

I've had a couple of verts, but right now I only have the one S5 coupe.

Might be able to use an engine I bought - if it tests out good..we'll see , if not I'll be either sending it out or hope to find a local to help me rebuild it

There's a guy down here in Chesterfield that used to race FB's and FC's. I dunno if he still does anything with rotors at all, but you might check him out if you wanna pay to have someone do it.

Is he on here? What's his user-id

I doubt it. I can't remember the name of his shop right now either, frustratingly enough... It's off of Research Rd. in Chesterfield.

Saavedro88 02-09-13 01:20 PM

MITCHUM'S.

That's the name. God. I can't believe that was so hard to dredge up, lol.

wthdidusay82 02-09-13 01:57 PM

Hmmm, depends where in Chesterfield. I'm near colonial heights in Petersburg/Dinwiddie

Mitchum knows a lot. Factory tech in the 70's, 80's. he's still building race cars I'm pretty sure. 379-1239

wthdidusay82 02-09-13 03:49 PM

Maybe I'll have to give him a call, I'll have two blocks here pretty soon.

I'm very motivated to put the spare in if its good or rebuild using all the best parts from both to make in good engine.!

Does he still build rotaries though? Last time I was at his shop he had sold both the of the FB's and was mostly concentrating on the Spec Miata.

wthdidusay82 02-09-13 11:44 PM

I hope I can find a good local, if I ever decide to rebuild it'd be ideal.

Cookboy 02-10-13 07:12 PM

I don't know. He's still in business, and still knows how. I haven't spoken to him in 10+ years. I just became a rotary owner again last summer.

wthdidusay82 02-10-13 08:30 PM

I just became one a little over a month ago after not having one for two years, had my last one for 6 years.
