Torque gain

So I know these cars have low torque. I've been trying to do research for torque gain, but nothing has come up. Is there any way to increase the torque on these motors??

I have an s4.5 and want to increase the torque from my car. Does anyone know why these cars produce such low torque?

there are a few factors the rotary makes less low rpm torque than an equivalent piston engine.

1. chamber sealing. the rotary has more seal length than an equivalent engine. so there are more places for compression to leak between chambers. this means improving chamber sealing makes more low RPM power. regarding apex seal choice, Mazda has the corner piece all the way in the corner, which seals better, but wears more. the aftermarket seal designs move the corner which reduces wear on the housing, but provides a larger leak path.

2. the rotary has longer strokes, due to the gearing of the rotor the rotary has 270 degree strokes, so there actually more time for the chambers to leak vs a piston engine.

3. exhaust dilution. due to there not being an exhaust valve, there is plenty of exhaust gasses that get recirculated into the intake stroke, its like a HUGE EGR valve. the Rx8 addresses this by closing the exhaust ports earlier, which we can't do in a non renesis engine easily... we can free up the exhaust though. its probably why doing an exhaust helps everywhere.

4. port timing. due to #3, the intake ports open late, and since they need to be a certain size they stay open late, which doesn't help. the Rx8 closes the exhaust early, the intake can then open earlier.
