Primary ports on 6-port
Rebuilding motor, going to be pure track car.
Not going crazy on porting, but will be doing a bit. Going to clean up the 'lip' that's there. Question is though, I notice on the primary intake ports, the bottom of the intake port coming from the manifold, appears to ramp up, into the port shape. Is it safe to take the primary down to where the bottom of the intake port from the manifold is? Not sure if I'm explaining it correctly, but can post pictures too if needed. Also, about how much space do I have before I go into the coolant? |
I would suggest getting some porting templates if your new to porting. Also there is alot of info on porting here if you search for it and No pistons has a porting section.
Here are acouple links to some of Mazdatrix's FAQs that may help you. 6-Port Porting Cutaways |
What engine are you working with? Mazda moved the primary ports around a bunch. There's IIRC a half inch difference in location between S3 and S4, as well as a difference in total height.

Thanks guys!
It's an S4 center. I considered getting porting templates, but I am not planning on making huge power on this setup. I would like to get this motor going, with slight performance increases, and then I'll be buying a turbo motor to play with. I really like Aaron's plan to use the 6-ports, and Turbo. Functional 6-port + turbo just sounds like a bunch of fun. I'll be cleaning up the ports some, trying to allow them to flow a little better. Another reason I'm not pouring a ton of money into this engine, is because it's going to be the first engine I tune with megasquirt. So, it may end up destroying things. I would just be really happy with a little more power, and for it to last 1 race season. |
