peripheral port question..
 

I got a a rotary ae86 on the making with the help of my neighbor.

well i got a set of fuel injected IDA 50 style throttle bodies setup. i was going with an nice streetport on my S5 N/A looking to hit 210hp to the wheels somehow, well my neighbor told me that his girls uncle drives P Ported 13b on the streets all day..... i was like :scratch: .... cuz this dude does lies alot... till i saw that S***. its on a 1982 corolla and it is stupid fast, he told me that his been running it for about 2 years with a 48 IDA carb. and its not even that loud like people say.. and i'll do drive it on the street any day of the week. so i'm looking to get my motor p ported by my self. (dude across the street is a machinist)

what do i do with the stock side ports??? i know i have to block them but from where??? just a block off in the outside or in the inside??

p.s. please don't try to steer me away from it because of your "forum" experience about P port. I saw the thing, I heard it, I drove it.=NICEEE i'm doing it.

I never cared yet to search for the same question, but Ive wondered that too.
How do you block off the side ports?

Devcon....its sorta like JB Weld.

Fill the ports with Devcon and have the irons lapped to make sure there are no bumps of Devcon sticking up onto your wear surface taking out your sideseals. Cause thats bad.

I used Devcon in mine, but allways wondered if it would have a bad effect to just block off the intake runners with a plate. ?

i really thing there will be some sort of vacuum applied to the ports. and fuel will rush back the opposite direction on the stock ports.

Yeap, you'd get some kind of reverberation back in the intake stroke or you'd have fuel collect up in the port and then you'd get all kinds of rich spots through out the rpm range.

There is (was?) a racer in either Australia or NZ who had a 10A RX-3 with peripheral ports and a big street port. The p-port used the same plane for its intake manifold as the regular ports, and depending on what kind of race he was at, he would install either a standard type intake manifold or his peripheral port intake manifold. I suppose he would be the one to know.

Personally, I used JB Weld. Just make sure no matter what you use that you trim the port window in the side housing down 1/8" from the surface, in case the stuff decides to expand with heat.

JB Weld is more expensive than Devcon, BTW. Using the industro-weld stuff I think I spent $40. Then again that was the majority of the cost of my build :)

edit: What about any EFI or carb setup that uses staged throttle bodies? (Basically the stock EFI setups or the RB Holley setups, the OEM carb setup isn't fully staged) That should basically leave the secondary ports "dead" until the secondary throttles open. They don't seem to have problems...
