need help with carb on pport

hey guys, my question is since webber i.d.a carbs are so dam expensive here it got me thinking about running a holley carb of some sort. they are a hell of a lot cheaper here and money being the main thing holding me back from finishing my fc i want to take a few shot cuts with out obviously buying junk and doing half ass jobs.
my fuel system is all holley so it makes sense to choose a holley carb i just dont know anything about them the sizes and if any one has done it be for.
any help would be great.. even two smaller carbs 1 for each rotor???

o my engine is a new s5 n/a 13bpport

i know many off you will just say save and get the webber ida or go injection but i want to be a bit deffarent with this car it is basicly un heard of in new zealand having a pported n/a fc as all the cars are jdm imports and all turbo over here so a holley carbed 13bppport is awsome im my opinion haha

A friend of mine runs a semi p-port, Half bridge on a 650 Holly which he drives around town and takes to the drag strip and it runs really well, I dont know much about carb im more of an EFI guy but I know it can be done

I have my 12app running on a modified nikki at the moment and its putting out 194hp at the wheels, so Im sure you could get alot more out of a holley, It will cost to fabricate a manifold though and a four barrel manifold is alot more work than a two barrel so you would have to weigh up the cost gains out of going down the four barrel route, Empi carbs are good bang for buck, have a talk to the green brothers in tauranga, Im pretty sure the 13bpp hatch they built which runs an 11.1 down the 1/4 uses a empi carb,

cheers stu i can get a 48mm webber ida for $900nzd all done up for 13bpp
and will have to get my manifold cut down as i dont want to cut a hole in my non turbo bonnet and a 750cfm holley is arond $400nzd re kited etc gues it will end up all most the same.
do you think you could make me a manifold if i went with a holley set up?
i have been meaning to come up and ask you about this for a wile but im bit lazy haha

Not any more ............ New owner could only manage 12's (still quick) then Crashed into the wall at Meremere a few weeks ago. Pushed left strut tower into the firewall.

Anyway i no of a guy who fitted a (from memory) 650 and 850 holley to a standard batty, He used the stock ignition and just cut an modded a s6 lim to adapt the carb's, He said the 650 was good for hot/cold startring and driving around town but lacked top end, And that the 850 was a pain in the ass to tune for low down driving but went like f#*& up top, So yea can be done and defintly be somthing different ! good luck with what you decide :icon_tup:

Yep he rejeted to suit, Not sure what too tho, And the only sidey ive seen was on a mate's full cut 12a bridge that was tuned at 7heaven back in the day, It souned way more throaty than the niki but he didn't keep it on too long as it would cough an fart after 6000rpm which turned out to be 2 stufd coil's and shite leads. You got any build pics ? interested to see haha, Not many n/a fc's around.

Just wait a few months for Italy to go off the Euro and back on their Lira. It'll be a lot cheaper then!:egrin::egrin::egrin:

nvmarx 12-07-11 09:01 PM

yea i think they are a scatter blanket i have seen a few of them in nz i think you are not alowed to race/compete in any event with out one in new zealand stu could tell ya he drags his 12app in nelson

realy so you think the price to get a new one will come down?

DriveFast7 12-08-11 11:16 AM

if they come off the euro their currency won't be worth squat and there will be arbitrage opportunities. you could buy one from here in the states today for $490 USD brand new but I see the NZ$ is worth 77 cents US.

Yeah that is correct you can't put any rotary on the strip in NZ without having a 6mm steel plate around the bell housing or a ballistic scatter blanket, its come about after several cars have thrown there flywheels out into the croud, I think people have tried lightening there factory flywheels then bolting them to a worked up J Port and pretty much the only thing left holding them together is the ring gear! Heres a video of one letting go

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSFA0ufNS_k

and heres another

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2pz1PkhAo8

and thats why we have to have a scatter sheild/blanket!

oh ok im a cheap c*#t though lol i can get a 48mm weber all jeted to suit the 13bpp for 900nzd that is from the national weber guys, or the 51mm RB ida for 1300nzd to my door a second hand holley 850 is about 400nzd lol havnt found any 55mm side drafts second hand new i think they are about 700nzd. im leaning towads a 55mm side draft with a realy short manifold so it is basicly bolted to the block and make up a heat sheild and cold air intake to try and keep it cool havent mocked it up yet but there is abit of room beside the strut tower. in saying that i change my mind all the time a holley would be i bitch to tune i know that!!

mattmarrx3 12-11-11 12:56 PM

that s1 7 was the clutch letting go not the flywheel i should know lol i built it over 10 years ago it shared the clutch bolts off flush with the fly wheel lol went well 13.3 on 13 inch rims 12a bp niki carb
