Need help!
One of the belts on my 1988 rx7 gxl fell off. Its the one that's on the left side of the alternator if your looking at it from the front. The link below show's a pic of it but its from a FB. I looked at it and it said it was an air pump? My friend said that it helps the brakes and a few other things. Also im going to change the other belts...should i get them from mazda?

This is my motor. Left Belt is for Air Pump. all my belts are from Napa (my work). never had a single problem with them. hope this helps also, No the Air pump does nothing with the brakes. its for emissions. check its pulleys and make sure non of them are binding. |
thanks for the help man!

also do i really need the air pump belt to keep the car running?
|
as stated before, the air pump is for the engine's emissions. if you're asking whether or not you need the air pump for the car to function, the answer is no. it runs just fine without it. however, if your city does emissions testing, it may pose an issue. personally, i have removed the air pump from every rotary i've ever owned, but i understand it may not be an option for you.

Besides emissions, only reason you would NEED an air pump, is if you have an S5 N/A. strictly because the air pump actuates your 6 ports. only reason mine is still attached

thank you guys for the help...mine is an s4 and im just going to leave it on since i live in the city.
