High temp exhaust packing?
 

What high temp exhaust packing will hold up to racing? Please post if you have links/info on good muffler packing.

The muffler might be serviceable, but I want something that won't burn out in one or two race weekends. (I've had steel wool packing burn out in one session)

Ceramics? Stainless? Inconel? Lava rock?

The racing beat 3" in/out universal mufflers were ok, the packing would be burned out after two race weekends though. Not sure where they get their packing from. Maybe I should call them.

I currently have a burns muffler with the special rotary high temp packing. It seems to hold up well, but they won't tell me who the supplier of the packing is.

I have a Burns and it is serviceable. They sell the stainless scrubble packing on their site for $39 http://www.burnsstainless.com/sm-scrubble.aspx
This is the 2.5" version they made for me but I ended up selling and use a 3" instead.

Homey's Race Depot, bag of lava rock. I may try the Burn's scrubble next time I pull one apart. I need to repack a muffler on a friend's car and make it servicable at the same time.

McMaster Car sells ceramic wool in rolls of just about every thickness available for under $50. It's rated anywhere from 2000-2300F. They also make it pretty thin, ideal for making heat guards in the engine bay, turbo blankets, and possible even header wrap.

I currently have a burns that is 3.5" in/out with 4.5"OD. It only quiets the exhaust a few decibels over straight pipe. I have the special rotary packing which is more crazy than the scrubble, I haven't had any problems with the packing so far.

How does the scrubble hold up for you?
