Albuquerque area questions
Where do you find the parts and stuff to get things fixed? Are there any places in the area to go and not get ripped off/ or get very low quality work done?
Any help is greatly appreciated thanks. Oh and I have an 83 GS. |

Rotary RX isn't closed...I was just there a week or so ago talking to Tom as he was rebuilding an engine. They never answer the phone though, whenever I need to talk to them I swing by the shop. http://www.rotaryrx.com/
|
i need to go to rotary rx then if there not closed . cause im in neeed of a turbo II axle and im hoping the have one for me .
|
Sooo, i know the building is still there but i dident think tom was still there doing work? i thought he was moving like really soon?
|
Rotary RX is closed. It is now Brooklyn Motorsports. That motor Tom was building was his last, and it's mine! Half-BP :-)
|
So does Tom work out of Brooklyn Motorsports? Is he still in ABQ?

I called RotoryRX a couple weeks ago, they told me Tom was gone, and they have no rotary mechanics. They were willing to look at my car though... but I told them I wanted to meet Tom. I just moved to Los Lunas from out of state, and was looking forward to a sharp mechanic. My '91 just failed emissions (HC 10x what they should have been at idle, and my engine is new!), and I need to figure it out. I am a little leery of letting people work on my car... I'll call racefab and see what they can do.

Yeah, that is what I figured from my research on here. I have read that bad cats can cause this; my cats were new when I replaced the engine (5 yrs, 10k mi ago). I have a factory setup with the exception of street porting (Adkins engine) and Monza exhaust. My next step would be to replace the replace the plugs/wires and injectors, I think... I pulled the car from a junkyard in OH in '02. The injectors were not cleaned or replaced, I reused them with the new engine (which I am learning may not have been too bright). The original motor I pulled had blown the rear rotor, which fried the exhaust system and melted the wiring harness over the transmission hump (if this means anything). Any thoughts?

Verify that the air pump and air control valve (ACV) are working, and that the tube from the ACV to the main cat is intact. Take a look inside the cats and verify that the catalyst is still there and not blocked. I usually hold the main cat in front of a bright light and verify that I can see through the catalyst to the other end. Run the car hard immediately before your emissions test to ensure that the cats are hot and that the catalyst is performing its job optimally (although you've probably heard all this before).
Having the injectors cleaned and replacing spark plugs and wires is a good idea regardless of the emission issues. Replace your intake filter if you haven't done that either. One interesting thing I noticed on my car is that the barometric pressure sensor thinks that it's around 4400 ft. This is about 1000 ft off, and would probably result in the ecu adding extra fuel. It's easy to correct if you've got a tunable ecu, but if you're running the stock ecu, it may be a difficult issue to lean out the fuel mixture to an acceptable ratio. |
Widebody7 is a great Mechanic he is Toms bro. PM me if you want his contact info.
|
Does WideBody7 do this for a living? Or is this just a hobby? I'd rather use someone that can give me a warranty, no offense.
I also think I need to have my transmission rebuilt, any recomendations? I'm out in Rio Rancho. |

You go to UNM? I teach there! Small world. I'm going to talk to that transmission shop on northern in Rio Rancho. I'll see how they look and get back to you.
|
kenc,
are you the guy that parks, or used to park, down by the Nuclear Engineering Lab? |
I am and I am not. I bought that one in August. So while I am the one that parks it there now, I wasn't the one who was parking it there before August. I bought it from Professor Russell in the Mech Eng dept. He kept it in pretty good mechanical shape, just having to redo the interior at this point.
