Questions about MoTeC

All,

I'm currently running a PowerFC in my 94 FD. I'm a little frustrated at the lack of flexibility of this unit, but I really like the fact that it is streetable and runs all of the anciliaries like the air pump, the OMP, ABS, and so forth.

However, I am considering another EMS and if I am going to spend the time to do this at all, it will be with a high-end unit like EFI, Pectel, or MoTeC. Since the latter is the only unit that specifically addresses rotary engines in their literature, it would see that this would be the best choice.

However, I want to maintain the streetability of my car with respect to idle, on/off throttle smoothness, and of course the anciliaries I mentioned before. I am also interested in retaining as many of the factory sensors as possible (all of them would be nice).

Can the MoTeC units (like the M400) do this? Can they control the factory sequential turbocharger system, and the other anciliaries? Any experience here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

The sequential turbos system requires 3 outputs.
The OMP needs at least 4 (or 5 if you want to use feedback).
That's 7 minimum outputs right there - I don't think the M4 has that many extra outputs?

I don't know why you're insistant on those brands.
The Haltech E11 is set-up to control the OMP at least, and it has 7 more outputs on top of that which can theoretically control your sequentials if you want.

I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but I've heard horror stories about Haltech, the E11, build quality, and support. I've heard nothing but great things from the other companies I mentioned--but I guess you pay $$$$ for it.

Can you get an E11 that's totally plug-and-play (from a harness perspective) that uses the factory sensors and provides good coverage of the factory functions? Sequential turbo control? Wideband lambda? Datalogging? Shift cut? Traction control?

I'm not trying to be an ass here--if the E11 can actually do all of these things and has all the issues worked out, then I will seriously consider it. It's been my impression by reading the board that this is unfortunately not the case.

(And I thought the sequential turbo system needs four outputs: turbo precontrol, turbo control, wastegate, and charge control? Did I miss something?)

Check out the guys at K2RD - they make a plug-in.
I forgot about the boost control, that makes it #4; the Haltech can do boost control via it's aux outputs, and can do fancy things like 3D boost control or via wheel speed (ala traction control).

If you're against Haltech, then I'm wasting both our times.
My point is that the MoTeC does not have a firmware version released that can control the OMP on any of the rotary vehicles; the Haltech does, and I believe it's the only EMS on the market that can reliably do this (the jury is still out on the AEM unit).
