Motec ecu ??
 

i have a good amount of work done on my rx7, it has a motec computer installed in it and it supposedly needs to be tuned ......anybody know anything about who actually knows how to work on tuning these things.......let me know...

motec tuners are few and far between but they're out there. You might want to find some motec dealers then ask them where you can get that thing tuned.

Be careful who you let mess with that thing...

They are THE best EMC money can buy, but as someone said up the thread, not too many people know how to tune them properly.

I've never heard of Motec on our cars. What makes them the best? Anyone else running one?

They're not used on too many street cars because of the cost...

Most serious Racecars here (including our V8 Supercars) use Motecs.

They offer features like Traction Control, Dash Loggers, Lamba Meters, Heaps of programmable Inputs/Outputs and sample at something like 200 times/sec..

I will be using motec on mine also. It's going to be a while before it's completed. I was going to fly a tech in to tune mine. Let me know if you find someone good. I know Hitman tuned a local TII with motec when he flew out a couple of years back. And yes, Motec is the best money can buy. But not everyone needs it.

yea cuz my car was worked on by kd rotary and they said they would ahve to fly someone in to work on the motec computer for a crazy hr. rate....but its what i need to get car running decent....?? i dont know im going to post another thread on the board soon maybe somebody else could help us out with some knowledge on them,,,,

So your car has a really expensive ecu installed and you know nothing about it? There is no need for a Motec on a 13B for street use IMO. A PFC+datalogit or newer Haltech would do everything you need it to for a lot less money and a lot less trouble tuning it.

The main problem with motec is the infinite adjustability and it is the best. You can actually adjust the sample rate all the way up to 2400 sample per sec if you really needed to. If you do find a good tuner, have them integrate a water injection system. Might as well, it's going to cost you and a arm and leg anyway.

I've dealt with an M4 unit on a 600cc motorcycle engine on my FSAE race when I was in school. A lot of trial an error, fortunately there was a base map provided. I know they have them for rotary apps, contact the dealer and they might send you a copy fo the base map at least. Good luck, by the way if you have a lambda system on your car expect to replace it every 600 hours of use unless you can turn the unit off until the motor has warmed up and burned off any moisture buildup on the lambda sensor.

They're not that bad to tune once you have a reasonable base map and spend a lot of time learning how everything works and watching the logs. Sorry no I can't give you a copy of a base map to use. Do you know if you have the advanced tuning package enabled on it? They charge extra for almost every little option you can think of.

IMO there are better "bang for buck" options out there other than Motec

well i didnt want a motec computer..it was in the car when i bought it...i dont want anymore headaches and most of all the money i have to spend to get the car right....is there anybody in my area that knows somebody to tune these things and knows there stuff..i would consider going back to factory computer system but i dont want to interfer with any of the motec system and screw it up somehow...i live near philadelphia.........let me know

I'm certain someone would be willing to install something simple and more commonly used for you in exchange for the motec without any cost most likely. Assuming it's a functional and not stolen unit.

i havent a clue what model motec it is but my paperwork says its out of a race car (never used) and it was $ 3999.

With all the bells and whistles I think I went over $6000 for an M4 with all the logging etc. etc. You might just have the base unit. If you have the serial number someone could call motec and find out exactly which options you have enabled.

When you figure the used unit is worth XYZ also keep in mind the person you exchange it with should be charging you $90+ per hour to remove it and install a different unit, plus the cost of the unit, I assume something like a PFC.

Motec's are easy as piss to tune, I do them all the time piston and rotary... they are not the best and for the money they charge your getting ripped hard core when you look at what a Autronic SM4 can do !

If I was going to fu(k around doing a full rewire I would use a Autronic SM4 first then second would be a M800 Motec, the Autronic is far superior when run in throttle/manifold target AFR mode (using exhaust back pressure input as well), its more consistent and its amazingly easy to alter tune without need to spend mega amounts on retuning etc.

We use a Motec on our FSAE car (M600) and its not as good at controling an engine as an Autronic ECU, we have unlimited dyno time too ;)

There's a few Autronic specialists over there who have already done this and will guarantee you a result you will be happy with, go check out the ECU forum ;)

Twins Turbo in CA know the Motec system. Try them out or Mazdatrix, I remember my friend Henry from Mazdatrix once talked about them using it. Both Twins Turbo and Mazdatrix are within one block from each other.

well im interested in havin somebody who know what they 're doin work on the car.....but i cant ship my car to anyone because of trust issues.....if somebody knows anyone with a 3 hr radius near philly, let me know......ill see if i can get the serial #'s of the thing so we know what we are dealin with.... also i might want to just sell my car instead of doing all this.....let me know if anyones interested......
