Won't run unless I hook up all four injectors to primary wires
 
88 13b na in sand rail. I ran a haltech on it before I fried the ecu. I bought a Microtech LT8 and sent to microtech to have it set up for a 13b. I wired it up checked and re checked the wiring....no start. After checking everything again I found out that the engine was not getting fuel. After playing around with it I found that it would start and run if I hooked up all four injectors to the two primary wires coming out of the ecu. Is there a setting in the program that needs changed? What am I missing? Everything is stock and I even changed the injectors out because I thought I had bad injectors.

The primaries will fire during cranking regardless of your settings so it simply sounds like you either have a few bad injectors, or you just aren't giving it enough fuel in the cranking map.

I already replaced the injectors and have tried to change the crank settings. I will go back into the software and try again. Thanks!

I'm not sure I have an explanation then. With the car only starting if all four injectors are on the primary channels, one can only assume bad injectors or simply not enough fuel.

All injectors fire on crank anyway.

Your secondary injector drivers must be toast. Thats your problem.

Is there a way to test the secondary drivers? I just got this back from Microtech after paying them to reprogram.

Sure. Switch off injector staging on the ecu by switching opt_mapstg off and opt_revstg off.

Then put the config_04cyl to 00cyl and it should fire all4 injectors.

I did what RX72C said and all injectors are firing. I loaded another base map which I found here and can at least get it to start wired the correct way. It will only run for about 4 sec and if I try to give it any throttle it dies. The air fuel mixture is very lean 18.3. I tried adding more fuel to the crank map and it did not change anything. I also tried adjusting the load and idle maps with no change except that it will not even start. Any other suggestions?

What inlet manifold are you using?

If its a s4/5 inlet it will run like shit. Having 4 injectors in different locations all firing at the same time dosnt work very well.

By inlet do you mean for the map sensor off the intake? If so I just used one that was on the opposite side of the throttle body on the top.

i have seen a similar issue before,, bug tracking a stock FC
where the owner had incorrectly wired onto the wrong injector
( ie both primary wires going to R1 injectors )

on mtech,, yellow is primary injectors,, orange is secondary injectors,, black and a stripe denote rotor 2

I checked and rechecked the wiring. The primaries are plugged into the yellow wires and the secondaries are using the orange. I played with it more today and found if I turned off the REVstg and MAPstg and turned the %stg up to 80 it will run but it has two flat spots that it dies on. If I push the throttle down real slow it will rev up. Any other ideas?

from that,, its easy to tell your look up table ( cranking or idle and or load maps )
has just simply too low values before staging
( that or you have FA fuel pressure = please check you have 36- 42 psi static pressure )

by taking %stg to 80 ( normally 50% for stock injectors )
you have added 30% mixes to all values BEFORE the staging threshold

also,, the reluctance to rev unless slowly fed throttle also indicates lean
and also indicates that the throttle pump timing/ volume or TPS calibration is possibly out of whack

move rev stage back to 50% if you have 4 stock injectors

instead try adding 30% to the overall mix trim on screen 30

this will make the pre staging values same as what they are with the staging set to 80%
BUT it will also add 30% to all values after staging

if these helps the flat spot issues,, yet maintains an idle,, then we are getting close to the issue
( basically your look up map is too low all around )

if this makes the flat spot worse,,, yet maintains idle,, then it indicates the mixtures are only low pre-staging
( and you will have to manually add 30% to all idle and load plots under the staging window instead of the whole map,, or using the mix trim function )


PS
its important to test your bug both cold and hot to be sure the trouble is in the main map and not the warm up curve in screen 20

Bumpstart thank you for all the info. I was about to pull my hair out! I checked the fuel pressure and it was great. I changed %stg back to 50 and changed added 30% to mixtrm and it idles just fine and I can now push the throttle down with no cut out until about 3000rpm. I assume this is where the secondaries are suppose to come on. I also assume from what you said that it is still lean right there. I am not sure what to adjust to get rid of that?? The TPS is calibrated correctly and you also said something about throttle pump timing....not sure what that is? Sorry for the stupid questions I am learning. Thanks again for all the help.

TPS calibration is done to time the acell pump properly
-- without it it will need a clutch ride off the line to prevent a stall

-- if the TPS is out,, the car will also idle on its light load maps,, rather than an idle specific one

as for the lean spot as staging occurs
the usuall trick to get a smoother progression is to check if the staging is lean or rich when secondaries kick in,, lambda helps
but usuall trick is to add 5% more to the mix trims,, and see if staging is uglier
-- if so,, proves you need to lean out the bog down
-- and you can do that by altering that split value from 50% to 48 % or so
but,, more usually,, a better method is to make staging occur later
( by shifting the threshold triggers to higher revs,,or closer to load,, or both )

if you actually have a lean spot at staging ( as you suspect ) then the usual trick is to remove that 5% mix trim to what it was before last move above
and lower the staging thresholds
-- ie set rev stg to 2500 and map stg to -5 inch Hg

personally,, with stock injectors i find stock engines usually like 3000 and ( 0 ) [ or ( -5 ) ]
,, and slightly worked ones will be 2500 and ( -5 )
