Why is the base map set like this?

Screen 30, ref 14; %Stage of secondary injectors is set to %50.

This means the secondary injectors will fire %50 of the time the primaries fire. This equates to %90 duty cycle of primary injectors and only %45 duty cycle on the secondary injectors. I can tell you this, it is not enough fuel.

Can someone tell me why the base map is set like this? perhaps Im being misled by the manual?

No, I think you're just lacking in a bit of theory. :)

Is the 90% duty cycle an actual number for your map? If so, given the fuel setup you gave, it should be adequate. One important detail you've left out is how much boost you're talking about. If you're talking about 20 psi, you're right, it's not enough fuel... but that's not the fault of the map! You just don't have enough fuel for your turbo.

Remember, duty cycles are only useful for bounding your injector timing. After that, it's all about mass fuel flow. Calculate the sum of your primary and secondary mass fuel flows, and divide it by your mass air flow. If it's lower than about 0.075, then you've got something to complain about.

Seriously, wait till you've got a wideband on it before you start worrying. :)

It just seems to me:

If BOTH thestock ECU and Microtech can run the duty cycle to say, 75% MAX.

The microtech base map is set so that the primary duty cycle will be twice that of the secondary, for a maximum of %75, and %37.5. so if I had 550 primary injectors, I would need 1100cc secondary injectors just to equal the amount of fuel which the stock ECU can provide (with 4x550cc injectors).

I would also like to know the transition at the set 3000rpm, 5hg point. if the primary injectors are firing 6ms, does this mean the secondary will imidiatly start firing 3ms? Thats a huge jump in fuel, and so sudden. Also the scale of the load map seems smooth. If there is a drop set at 3000, seems it will affect rpms just before 3000.

Im not 100% sure how it works but the % is for the transition, if you go larger in the secondarys you go up in the % staged, its to give it a smooth transition when the secondarys come on.

SaabGuy 04-24-03 12:10 PM

so at what point after this transition does injection duty cycle equal one another?

10sec rx7 04-25-03 02:14 AM

im not 100% sure, ill ask microtech on monday for you.

SaabGuy 04-25-03 08:47 AM

Thank you that would be great.

The way Im understanding this is that half the bandwidth of the secondary injectors will never be used unless this setting is changed to 100%.

How would I go about turning down the duty cycle of the Primaries and increasing the duty cycle of the secondaries on that particular screen and ref point?

While I've never tuned our even used an aftermarket EMS before, this is what I got out of what people have been saying about this setting.

SaabGuy 04-29-03 02:11 PM

So then it is safe to assume that this setting effects the entire range when the secondaries fire. Someone please confirm with Microtech. Dale, John.

This setting will most likely be changed imidiatly on the dyno!

SaabGuy 04-30-03 05:24 PM

OK heres a wierd one.

When I adjust this %stage setting its exactly the same as adjusting the mixture trim %age.

Why cant I seem to get an answer on what this setting is supposed to do????
