what is ref and rpm in the error log?
 

I took a selftest on my microtech in the search for the problem.
Found out that REF and RPM showed ERR.... What is REF and RPM? some wires i can trace?

REF is a signal from the CAS!
I guess that the REW signal error also depends on the CAS... (or if that is taken from the trailing coils signal) I'm not sure...
Check your wiring to the crankangle sensor, and also make sure that they are as far as possible away from your spark plug leads!

Thanks, added you now... the as wires is 15cm from the spark leads.. the trailing coil signal wires are 5-10cm from the spark leads.. is this enaugh?

Can someone elaborate on the RPM error? I have no errors except an intermittent RPM error, and it seems to do it only when the engine is cold. Also, the engine runs the same whether the red light is flashing or not. Weird huh? Is it a coil problem? This is for a LT8S, 87 Turbo II engine with mostly stock everything.

hmm my problem is that the trailing coil only fire when selftesting.. No fire when i try to start.. all wires checked..

Have you checked the wires on the CAS side of the connection plug?
They change colours at the fu.... plug!

yes i did a 13b-re swap, and wired it according to the wire harness plug. big mistake! car did not want to start. I did not know until I look more closely at the cas, and the wires on the cas are upside down from the harness plug!! weird.

yes i have checked the cas side of the plug.. either way it should stop the trailing coil from firing?

I've tried tuning here. all went right till i adjusted the t_rpm. Then RPM error popped up?!?!?!

REF and RPM will be showed in test mode! Even if there are no foults...
Sindregutt can probably tell you more about it!

Yeah the RPM anf REF error will always be showed in selftest as arvika says. Its because the car simulates that it runs @ 1800rpm but when selftesting the car dont get any REF signal and again no RPM. You will also get RPM error if the CAS cable is to near the ignition wires. Have you tried to adjust t_rpm back to preset? I dont know why you got the RPM error because the RPM comes from the CAS and shouldnt have anything to do with adjusting the t_rpm

hmm, i am getting this same errors not in self test mode. the wiring to the CAS is backwards from the plug so should i try swapping those 2 wires?

both my and a friends LT8s were missing the ignition schematics pages....

the car runs like ass and doesn't want to stay running so i'm assuming it is either running on either only the trailing or leading coils.

any help would be appreciated, thanks.

besure that the red from the CAS goes to the red on the harness, and green from the cas goes to green on the harness.. Whiteblack and white is ground...

Has had the same problem and it was the RED/ Green wire. Take the wires directly from CAS not from harness! The white / white-black on CAS are connected to Red / Green on harness but you need the red / green from CAS not from harness.

probably the problem but i am not tapping into the CAS wiring, i want the connector so the CAS can be removed, connectors serve a good purpose though i will have to check and be sure the wires are corresponding correctly.

You dont need to remove the entire connector to change the colors in it.. just shuffle the pins around so you got red->red green->green and wb->wb(ground) w->w(ground)
