Ways to improve throttle response from idle?
My TII runs great, and is very responsive in every RPM... except idle.
When I bury the pedal at idle, the motor stumbles a bit and then revs up. My idle is around 900RPM, and I'm pulling about 18-20"Hg on the Hand controller's gauge. So my question is: -Would removing fuel at the corresponding vacuum range in the idle map improve the responsiveness at idle? If there are any other suggestions, I'm willing to try them! Thanks! |
Show me your pump settings.
thats where the problem will be. |
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm currently at school right now, so I'll get it to you when I get back to my car.

Alright, here's my pump settings:
Pump1 +10% Pump1pulse +05 pump1trig +10 pump1stop 00"Hg pump2start 2000RPM pump2amt +30% Pump2time +10 Pump2trig +16 pump2stop 00"Hg pump1&2adv +05deg pump1&2dwell 3.00 pump1&2timer no pump1&2sync no pump1&2spare 0 pump1&2cold 0 The car was tuned by Steve Kan, so I don't know if tweaking my pump settings would affect my tune under load. |
no it wont but how come he didnt address the issue when it was tuned? seems rather odd then all these big $$$ tuners cant get it right.
Pump1 +25% Put that in. And see if it improves. |
Thanks man. I'll try that tomorrow when I head to class, and let you know how that goes.
|
Alright, setting the pump1 to +25% did the job. Is this a setting you typically use on your cars? My motor is on stock ports by the way. Thanks a bunch!
|
Most cars use pump1 30% from what ive seen but depending on the tune it can change.
If your load maps are rich then the pump 1 setting at 10% will work. But if your load maps have been cleaned up very very well then the pump setting will need to be richer. Good to hear your problem is fixed. happy to help. |
Steve cleaned up my maps pretty well, so I found it kind of surprising how +25% improved my response that much. Before the car would just stutter when I go wot suddenly, now it responds as it should.

Yeh its common. See heaps of them.
A good tuner WILL GO THROUGH everything when he tunes a car. When i tune a car i like to keep it over night, so i can do cold start and iron out any bugs in the tune as sometimes the dyno only covers 50% of the tune. |
