Vac line diagram
 

Im just wondering what you guy have done for your vac lines and crankcase ventalaton.
Ive gotta take my inlet manifold off soon, so i thought i would get opinions on how mine is setup and hear what others have done too. im going to use some silicone hose this time too! (i should of the 1st time)

RED = vac lines
BLUE = fuel
GREEN = crankcase ventilation

all unused vac nipples are capped (not shown)
ive kept the pressure sensor so my std boost gague works (which it does with a 5v power source) and the charchol canister so that a (not too hard) look under the bonnet dosent scream ive got no emmisions gear at all

dont ever use the silicon stuff for vacuum lines, it is crap it sucks closed and blow up like a ballon under boost,

i did a test the other week,

took a piece of 1/4" id blue silicon hose and a 1/4" id -4 braided hose, the pressure difference they read was 4psi!! so if you use one on your map sensor you will be reading 4psi less than what the motor is getting!!

dale, are we talking like -4 stainless braided hose? if so. i dont even know where to get something this tiny.... all the silicone hose ive seen.....www.hosetechniques.com has been VERY high quality stuff, and very thick walls. i couldnt ever imagine that stuff collapseing when i can barley sqeese it close with my hand.

yes -4 rubber hose (1/4" ID) covered with a stainless braid, that stuff is eaisly avaliable down here, looks 400 times better than the silicon stuff as well,

the stuff i had was 1/4" ID and had a very stiff thick wall but it still managed to swell and suck closed,

ill get some pics of my engine bay with the new braided vac lines,

you use wire straps to keep it in place also?

can you get a reinfoced type of silicon hose??
im not too happy with the rubber thats on there now it may of just been a bad batch though, but it has aged alot and it's very low mileage and 6 months old.

Also what about the silicon hose that comes with things like turbosmart boost contollers?? ive seen two types.. the red stuff (looks reinforeced, is very think and heavy duty looking) and the plain looking clear stuff, are they suppling stuff that should be replaced?

Any one want to comment on the digaram?

wow, thanks a ton for the heads up. I have silicon/braided hose for the fuel lines on my R/C car. However it's to small to be used as vac lines:(

not sure if you can get reinforced stuff or not, the turbosmart stuff is really really stiff and seems ok, its the wanky blue and red stuff that is no good,

i am using speed flow 100 series hose, as seen here

im using the -4 hose which is 1/4" and using the 100 series hose ends for it, no more leaks no more hose clamps!! everything just unbolts!

well i redid the vac lines today i slightly changed it from the 1st diagram, im not using any of the lines from near the throttle body now.

What kind of prices are we talking about with that hose?

its pretty cheap mate,

here is a small list of the prices, i have a full price list here if you want some specific prices.
vac lines are -4, turbo oil feeds etc are -6, brake booster line is -8, oil cooler -10 etc,
all prices are +10% gst, hose prices are per Metre (around 3 foot)

Hmm... Sounds like someone *wink wink* should make and sell a kit.

you guys tell me what you want and ill get something happening,

the only problem with the braided stuff is you need a 1/4" vacuum point to put it onto!! i drilled and tapped my UIM with a 1/8bsp tap and screwed in fittings, looks hot and works a treat as all the fittings are anodized blue and red.

What size is the nipple for the MAP sensor on the back of the ECU?

You should have 2 sources, right? One un-interrupted to the MAP sensor and the other one for the boost gauge and BOV, or am I mistaken?

I wouldn't need very much line, around 2-2.5 meters should be plenty. Then, I'll need to understand more on how they connect to the BOV, MAP, and boost gauge.

ill have a look and see if i can get the 1/4" stuff on the map sensor, shouldnt be a problem,

ill get some pics of my connection method, that will give you some ideas.
