Tuning knowledge !!
 

What would be a good way to know how to use microtech and understand it with out messing the engine up :p and know how to tune??
let say i allready have a wide band!

If anybody recommend anything or know how to know use it !

- there is no simple or fast way of finding out how to use it (reading the manual), let alone understanding what to do with it, tuning has overlapping levels that are very dynamic in their interaction, in general at least a few years of effective experience and a minimal level of training is a start.
- Also having a wide band is not going to to help, the Wide band airfuel meter is best used duing the final stages of fine tuning so keep it on the shelf until it is needed (the O2 sensors can be contaminated beyond use during early tuning unless you have a good map to start). So a narrow band is ok to start with, if you want a useful instrument, buy and install an exhaust gas temp gauge (EGT). I have found that the majority of do-it-yourself tuners blame detonation (lean A/F ratio) for breaking seals, when it is actually excessive EGT causing problems (the springs lose their temper, seals and/or seal grooves distort, etc)

- Starting point - base maps provided by the manufacture is an option, sometimes you can find a couple people to share thier map, remember to look all of them over and compare them closely, before loading one to try, you will see certain trends in the fuel and ignition maps regardless of what ecu or engine mods are used... very few DIY people realize this, so do not be afraid to check out some of the other engine managment forums for maps (many of thier laptop programming software is downloadable so you can check out the maps, since ignition is universally in degrees before or after top center and fuel injector opening time is measured in MS (time), just transfere that info to a spreadsheet or even just some sort of table and go from there...

I am sorry I do not understand your response, As far as being knowledgeable enough to work on your own car, the world is full of backyard mechanics, it does not exactly require a great deal of know how or understanding to turn a wrench and change parts, but even at that there is the support of a large volume of books, videos and even TV shows that can show even the most mechanically challenged how to be successful at it... however, there is very little published info that covers most of, let alone all aspects of tuning a full engine management system and what is out there generally requires a good understanding of engine operational theory plus... just trying to point out that yours is not a simple request to answer and that I would like to help out fellow enthusiast...

I appreciate that. let just tell you why i want to know how to tune my own car. I am not from the US and hopefully i'm going to ship my car to my contry (KUWAIT) and the problem is that we don't even have 1 tuner.. !! its lame. I know how to work on my car from elictrical to mechanical. except tuning, i know the general concept but don't know how to apply it.

I was looking for tuning books the other day and i found some good once but they generally speak about it. i have a michrotech and the manual doesn't go indetail on how to tune it. i am waiting for a tuner to tune my car and i dought that he will show me how :)

how do you know that are good tuners in Fl ??
