Tuning with handset

Who has used the handset to tune their microtech? And how easy was it(if it was).I have an LTX-8 and I'm wanting to buy the handset and I just want to know if it was easy to use.I have an S5 13BT,Walbro 255lph,2.5" full exhaust, with stock turbo.

The handset is one of the easiest I have used. Once you get used to the function of the buttons it's very handy...As compared to the Wolf3D handset, which makes me want to cut myself...

i found it very easy to tune with but tuning AFRs on the fly is a rather tricky business..

Did u guys use a narrow air/fuel ratio gauge or a wideband

RotaryEvolution 11-15-06 03:00 PM

narrowband is worthless, invest in a wideband.

Aaron Cake 11-16-06 08:45 AM

Well, I use both. Both have their purposes.

For the initial startup and first tune, I almost always use a narrowband. The reason being that this first tune is mostly done by smell and feel, and 9 times out of 10 the ECU (almost any standalone really...) starts so rich that ratios are somewhere in the 8:1 range. I don't like fouling expensive narrowband sensors.

Once fuel has been pulled to the point where ratios are more like 12:1, I switch to a wideband to make sure I'm safe when tuning under boost. Tuning WOT is easy and once that's done the low throttle gets finalized which I generally do by feel but with occasional glances at the wideband.

Is it possible to do it all with a narrowband I'm kinda starting to run short on cash on my project and wideband's r expensive

I actually found a digital air/fuel ratio gauge for 60 bucks. It's a Nordskog I found it on the Summit racing website. Will it work?

for a rough tune out of boost it would give you a ballpark but for fine tuning absolutely not.

is a $300 wideband worth saving a $2000 motor? i think it is.

I might have missed a thing or two but this isnt too bad.
