Tps

I have an LT8 and I know the s4 tps has been an issue with it for a while now, I was wondering if moving to a s5 tps would help the all or nothing i get from the s4 tps with the lt8

Quick and cheap fix.

Hi Fuzzy

I am new to th eMicrotech system but from my resent reading I think you can replace with any TPS. Then just go in and set it up. I mention this because the Mazda TPS are big bucks. I made use of a TPS that I picked out of a catalog at my local auto parts store ($24.85) one drilled hole in the lever and a bent stainless steel wire bingo trouble free TPS. This TPS was used with a different engine management system with no problems. I assume the same with the MT/LT units.

Yeah, im not really worried about cost its mainly that i have a s5 tb w/ tps but dont want to swap it if it doesnt make a difference.

Johny zoom 09-20-08 05:10 PM

it won't make any difference It only read all Or nothing.

so its on Idle or off

rx72c 09-20-08 06:39 PM

why do you think your tps is a problem?

MrFuzzy 09-29-08 10:17 PM

I though the TPS was the problem because the s4 tps after 20% throttle it goes to WOT. I know that they addressed this issue with the s5 by adding a second sensor. I also have a FD tps which is a totally different style and was thinking about trying that one also. It might not be my TPS it might just be microtech ingeneral my friend has a PowerFC and has a full range of throttle.

how are you guys going into the microtech and changing the sensor type. i was under the impression that you could change the sensors. i had a iat go out and wanted to change it to a gm style one and was told that, that would not work b/c you could change the values for a given resistence.

your tps isnt your problem.

rxspeed7 10-03-08 11:15 PM

still curious on changing the sensors input resistance's?

Aaron Cake 10-04-08 10:30 AM

You can run any TPS you want. The Microtech just looks at a 0-5V signal. I run a Ford full range TPS as I use an aftermarket Mustang throttle body.

By default the acell pumps are MAP referenced. With large porting this can be problematic so switching to TPS referenced is sometimes necessary. In which case you will want a full range TPS. Otherwise the TPS is just used for idle/off idle and flood clear. You can use a switch if you want.

rxspeed7 10-04-08 11:31 PM

right, i know you can switch tps's but what about changing the iat?

Aaron Cake 10-05-08 09:45 AM

You can't change the IAT from what is programmed into the Microtech if you still intend it to read the correct temperature.

the blue wires goes to the orange wire on a s4 tps. the grey wire goes to the green wire on the tps. the brown wire goes to the black wire on the tps.

i hope that helps.

kingbob1000 10-20-08 06:52 AM

thanks for the help sry to jack the thread.

MrFuzzy 10-22-08 03:22 PM

you could use the FD iat just need the plug with it, is the FD tps full range?

rx72c 10-22-08 03:45 PM

Yes it is.
But i dont know how many times i need to say it.

Microtech+full range tps= complete waste of time.

Aaron Cake 10-25-08 10:31 AM

It's not a waste of time if you need to run Alpha-N. Also it's handy when datalogging. :)

TPS based acell enrichment is also far superior to MAP based in many cases (ie. bridgeport).

rx72c 10-25-08 06:46 PM

i agree in the case of a bridgeport, anything that pulls poor vaccum, then yes it is excellent to have.
but it seems the person above is doing it for the wrong reasons.
