Timing Split

Hey all,

I was parusing the Haltech forum and came across an interesting thread on timing split and power increases yadda yadda yadda.

For those that are interested, here is a link to the thread

Anyhow, to quote someone "I would verify with Haltech designers what the "chances" are of ignition firing at the wrong point before making them the same....I think they have a + - 5deg resolution???."

It was brought to light that it was more like 2degrees. Anyhow, obviously if the timing split is set to 0degrees and you have a 2degree error in the wrong direction then that wouldn't be good.

What is the resolution of the microtech in regards to error? I have been told that the guy who designed the microtech had the rotary ignition system in mind so I would assume it is better than the haltech.

Anyway, the original thread is very interesting and I figured I would ask.

The Microtech LT is rated to 0.25 degree. Keep in mind as well that a small negative split won't necessarily blow your engine. :)

Sometimes I wish Microtech could change timing split based on map. Its only based on RPM. but come to think of it, not like it really makes a difference I guess.

I run 15 at idle and cruise rpms. after about 3k I slope down to 10 degrees split until 7k, where I back up to 20 degrees thereafter (for safety I guess??).
