Timing lock
 

I was under the impression that when timing lock was engaged the ECU locked timing at 5 deg ATDC. When I engage timing lock the timing is locked at 0 deg. This is on an LT12 on a 20 B. We have 2 timing marks on the main pulley. have tried to search and am not having much luck.

Yes, they talk about locked timing being -5. When I lock timing in the Microtech it reads 0.

Yes the microtech locks at zero. Its not at smart as other ecus.


So you set the microtech "0" at -5 on the pulley and you always work out all your timing figures on the ecu -5.

So if the ecu says your running 21 degrees of timing, your at 16 on the pulley.

A little. We lined up "0" at the right timing at the right mark, or on the spark plug side. So your saying all my timing will be 5 deg behind? Why wouldn't they program the rotary to lock on a timing mark. I tuned a mustang the other day and the microtech locked timing at 10 deg advance and we lined that up to the 10 deg btdc mark. It was easy.

Microtech will always lock to zero degrees of timing regardless of engine setup. I CAN ASSURE YOU THIS 100%

No sir, sorry but you are 100% wrong. I just went out and double checked, it locks to 10 deg on the mustang with the LT-10. I would take a screen shot, but my tuning computer doesn't get on the internet.

I've got a racing beat pulley and mine locked right on the "0" mark of the pulley.

Your static timing is on 10 or your timing trim is on 10.

Every microtech i have seen locks to zero.

Well, technically if you have positive static timing or timing trim values Microtech WILL lock to something other than 0. :)

I will have to go back and check the static and timing trims, but it was a factory map. I am back in the states and the car is in the Caribbean, so I will check next time I go. I know there was no 10 deg timing trim cause the timing was logging exactually what I had it set at. I am still getting to know the Microtech and never looked at the static timing.

So that leads me to a question....why wouldn't you set a -5 deg timing trim and lock the timing to an actual mark, then erase the timing trim and you timing will be actual instead on trying to subtract from the computer values? That would make much more sense to me.
