Since we now know the choice of plug wires, how about plugs?
I am using NGK BUR9EQ14's all around in my AE. I'm just curious if anyone is running anything different with positive results.

NGK R5671A-9

I've heard of people using B9EV? (I don't know the exact)

They last pretty good, they dont foul or flood near as easy as the BURs.
I get them at O'reilys, not sure if you have those there, but i think autozone carries them as well, i can get that AZ part numbers tonight. |
We don't have O'Reilys, but AutoZone's are everywhere. Cool, I appreciate the part numbers...
:bigthumb: |
Autozone doesn't carry NGK's in my state

R5671A-XX XX for heat range.
There are 2 different sets of stock numbers per plug. Parts store you go to might not be skilled enough to look up by the R5671A numbers... So.. Orieley's, others: Heat range Stock number 7 4091 8 4554 9 5238 10 5820 11 6596 If they can't find by those stock numbers, they must use this set: Heat range Stock number 7 5587 8 2660 9 7382 10 6239 .022-.024 gap has been working great for me. Information stolen from Russell Chinn. I guess NAPA has them if you have any NAPAs |
i use NGK B7EM for foul resistance until it is tuned so it wont foul then B9EGV,
EGV plugs should be avaliable from motor bike shops as they are used in dirt bikes and go karts Dale |
Dale,
Do you use those B7EM's in all 4 spots til it's tuned then the B9EGV's in all 4 spots as well? |

ya just pick whatever temp you want
i think stock is 7 and 9 but I use 9 and 10 |
I bought the 9 and 10. I'll report my results here a bit later.

Thanks, Dale. I picked up a set of the 9EGV's since my car is pretty much tuned. I have a problem, though, I can't install the 5671A's with the socket that I have, I need a thin walled socket, if one exists. I was thinking about just taking my socket to the grinding wheel and removing the necessary material. Does anyone have a thin walled plug socket, or did you guys just make yours?
|
no the 5671A's are 5/8" (i think thats right) but im sure they dont require a thin wall socket, Those are all I use and I use a regular sparkplug socket.
|
Hmmmm, I'm using a Craftsman socket and it definitely hits the housing.
|
i bought one from racingbeat
|
$60!?!??!?! For a freakin socket??!?!??! http://www.racingbeat.com/photos/11529.jpg Vosko, can I borrow yours? ;-) |
yup
|
i just brought a $5 socket and out it in a lathe and machined it down to suit,
Dale |
I went to Autozone and picked up one of their sockets, whatever brand they are, and it fits...:)
Haven't run the car yet, I just installed them and closed the garage. I've got lots of homework tonight. I will report in the next couple of days... |
i just used a craftsman and it worked. I think you'll like those plugs, they work great in my car.
|
I have noticed a bit of smoking in the start-up in the morning with these 5671A plugs. I did not change my premix ratio until the next fill up, and it still smokes a bit. Did you notice anything like this PowerOverFC?
|
umm i made all my dyno passes up to 459rwhp with stock 7's and 9's . so i'm not sure how necessary changing the plugs are
|
Well, if I can get the same perfomance out of a plug that costs less than half of what I was paying for the BUR9's, why not?
|
Ive never seen that, what did you gap them to?
FYI - there are guys in KC, MO running 11s on these plugs. |
I gapped them to where the .022 would fit but the .024 wouldn't.
|
I gap mine at .30 but I think boost matter in that equasion.
