Since we now know the choice of plug wires, how about plugs?

I am using NGK BUR9EQ14's all around in my AE. I'm just curious if anyone is running anything different with positive results.

PowerOverFC 08-26-03 10:25 AM

NGK R5671A-9
NGK R5671A-10

mine are only ~ $1.50 a plug ;)

oh ya, and VERY positive results, i reccomend them to anyone

the number after the dash is the heat range i think they make them up to 12 or something

Turbo Timmy 08-26-03 10:50 AM

I've heard of people using B9EV? (I don't know the exact)

How long do they last and where do you get them for that cheap, I'm only finding them at ~$2.95?

jimmyv13 08-26-03 11:18 AM

repost :(

PowerOverFC 08-26-03 12:52 PM

They last pretty good, they dont foul or flood near as easy as the BURs.

I get them at O'reilys, not sure if you have those there, but i think autozone carries them as well, i can get that AZ part numbers tonight.

jimmyv13 08-26-03 01:09 PM

We don't have O'Reilys, but AutoZone's are everywhere. Cool, I appreciate the part numbers...

banzaitoyota 08-26-03 01:17 PM

Autozone doesn't carry NGK's in my state

PowerOverFC 08-26-03 03:55 PM

R5671A-XX XX for heat range.

There are 2 different sets of stock numbers per plug. Parts store you go to might not be skilled enough to look up by the R5671A numbers... So..

Orieley's, others:
Heat range Stock number
7 4091
8 4554
9 5238
10 5820
11 6596

If they can't find by those stock numbers, they must use this set:
Heat range Stock number
7 5587
8 2660
9 7382
10 6239

.022-.024 gap has been working great for me.

Information stolen from Russell Chinn. I guess NAPA has them if you have any NAPAs

10sec rx7 08-26-03 07:41 PM

i use NGK B7EM for foul resistance until it is tuned so it wont foul then B9EGV,

EGV plugs should be avaliable from motor bike shops as they are used in dirt bikes and go karts

Dale

jimmyv13 09-25-03 10:07 AM

Dale,
Do you use those B7EM's in all 4 spots til it's tuned then the B9EGV's in all 4 spots as well?

I had to use those part #'s to find them at Napa and they even had them in stock  @ $1.95/ea. I'm going to give these a try until I can find the motorcycle plugs that Dale listed. Which plug goes in L & T? I'm guessing the 9 goes in the Leading????

PowerOverFC 09-25-03 10:56 AM

ya just pick whatever temp you want
i think stock is 7 and 9 but I use 9 and 10

jimmyv13 09-25-03 11:16 AM

I bought the 9 and 10. I'll report my results here a bit later.

i use the 7's in all 4 spots, they are a old rx4 plug and work pretty well, when it is sorted down low then swap over to the B9EGV

Dale

jimmyv13 09-29-03 10:16 PM

Thanks, Dale. I picked up a set of the 9EGV's since my car is pretty much tuned. I have a problem, though, I can't install the 5671A's with the socket that I have, I need a thin walled socket, if one exists. I was thinking about just taking my socket to the grinding wheel and removing the necessary material. Does anyone have a thin walled plug socket, or did you guys just make yours?

PowerOverFC 09-29-03 10:41 PM

no the 5671A's are 5/8" (i think thats right) but im sure they dont require a thin wall socket, Those are all I use and I use a regular sparkplug socket.

jimmyv13 09-30-03 12:07 AM

Hmmmm, I'm using a Craftsman socket and it definitely hits the housing.

vosko 09-30-03 12:38 AM

i bought one from racingbeat

jimmyv13 09-30-03 10:10 AM

$60!?!??!?! For a freakin socket??!?!??!

Vosko, can I borrow yours? ;-)

vosko 09-30-03 11:23 AM

yup

10sec rx7 09-30-03 06:29 PM

i just brought a $5 socket and out it in a lathe and machined it down to suit,

Dale

jimmyv13 09-30-03 09:35 PM

I went to Autozone and picked up one of their sockets, whatever brand they are, and it fits...:)

Haven't run the car yet, I just installed them and closed the garage. I've got lots of homework tonight. I will report in the next couple of days...

PowerOverFC 10-01-03 09:17 AM

i just used a craftsman and it worked. I think you'll like those plugs, they work great in my car.

jimmyv13 10-03-03 09:12 AM

I have noticed a bit of smoking in the start-up in the morning with these 5671A plugs. I did not change my premix ratio until the next fill up, and it still smokes a bit. Did you notice anything like this PowerOverFC?
