s5 13b turbo microtech or power fc?
 

I am nearing the end of my build, which is a street ported s5 13b (atkins rebuild with 3m apex seals etc), with a knight sports turbo, 550cc primaries, 1000cc secondaries, full 3" catless, fmic, all emissions removed, with a aeromotive a1000 fuel pump and an aeromotive a1000 fpr.

The car is a Datsun 510 which will pretty much only be used for track days and maybe a couple of joy rides on the weekends.

This will be my first stand alone ecu purchase, however, I am both mechanically and electronically inclined :)

So I pose a question that I have not really received a definitive answer on, "what should I go with, Microtech or Power FC?"

Microtech hands down. If i was to think of going something better it would be an e8 and DEFINITELY NOT a power fc.

Thanks for the info. What about the Microtech is better than the Power FC? Also, what do you think about the availability of shops who can tune the Microtech?

In that price range I would go with a Haltech as mentioned. Nice ride btw.

Firstly you have to think of the application.
If it was a FD i would tel you power FC as not only is it plugin but the powerfc is actually a better computer then the microtech.
but in your application none of the features the powerfc has will be used on your car, it is very basic, it has no air con idle control etc.
ALSO. The powerfc was only ever designed to be a plugin computer so if you were insistent on using the computer you would have to take a loom out of an FD and fit the loom up to your car so you can plug the power FC in.

If you want your car to be simple, straight to the point, etc get the microtech.
If you like playing around abit etc and are willing to possibly have some little gremlins in your ECU install but have excellent tunability, go the haltech.(assuming your budget covers the haltech).

i won't buy microtech again. I like my microtech. I've liked them in the past three cars I've owned. For christs sake, rtek is almost as diverse in it's maps as microtech and half the price. I love the simplicity of the microtechs, but they have not kept up with the times as other ems have. See the 32x32 map thread for more info. They've been promising that since before I boosted my accord with a microtech lt8 in late 02.
That being said, from now on I'll be going haltech.

i almost wish i would have went with haltech after reading the 32x32 map thread :(
