Running electronic OMP w/ LT-12s
 
Has anyone done this before and if yes could you shed some light as to how to run the let's say 13-b REW OMP with an LT-12s. Thanks!

either retain the factory ECU in a piggy backed set up to run it
or go to premix
or stick a spacer under the EOMP motor to effectively have fixed rate OMP at half or full rate
or get an aftermarket EOMP controller and run it from the spare TPS ( s5 ) or from a spare map sensor

just run premix, period. the OMP is just a failure point for several reasons.

premixing can extend engine life by up to double or more, the OMP injects crankcase oil into the engine which leaves carbon buildup which leads to premature engine failure and does a poor job at lubricating the whole of the engine internals. even if you plan on premixing via the OMP keep in mind that the OMP only injects oil right into the middle of the apex seal slot and doesn't lubricate the whole of the engine internals very effectively as premixing the fuel in the tank does.

hopefully you take this all into consideration seriously and show the engine some love. in some cases the OMP has given decent results, in others engines have only lasted 30k miles before carbon deposits are so high that the seals become stuck, this will NEVER be an issue with premixing so long as you use the correct ratio(for most street driven applications .75oz-1oz per gallon is ideal).

Well right now I have a Power FC and I'm planning on getting the rotary aviation adapter plate so I can run premix oil to the OMP and therefore to the engine. The injection rate on the PFC has been bumped up to something way more generous than the stock rate and eventually within the next 6 months or so I plan on running water injection so I'm not worried about carbon lockup or premature failure. I just can't believe that as big as microtech is for rotaries there isn't a better option than piggy-backing or separate controller option. I guess I will continue to explore....

in all sincerity,, and in concern that you get the best result first time,, is try the haltech forum,, just next door.....................

Thanks but no thanks... I dealt with Haltech in the past... they're as good as dead to me... I'll just mention one thing... have you ever tried to get technical support from their US headquarters in Texas?

my experience is the opposite,, once i was troubleshooting someone -elses install on a ( then ) high profile magazine cover cover

i rang haltech and had a 3 hour in depth conversation with the fella at the other end
he actually new the car i was working on
having been referred it many times from the sydney based original shop that had fitted the ECU
( E6R for those that can remember them )

within hours,, between us,,, we had worked it out ,, despite months of unsuccessful work at the sydney workshop

i was happy to say the least
next thing i know i was being offered the WA haltech dealer contract over the phone !
( there was no current then dealer here )

needless to say,, i had just spent 3 hours unwittingly pissing in the owners ear

now,, thats remarkable customer service? yes??


whats even better is when you realise ima in WA,, he is is sydney ,, and he has spent three hours backtracking a bad install
-- all on a ( sydney ) public holiday

can i instead offer you my experiences with microtech service?:egrin:
no,, maybe you should just search the WWW for how bad their service is,, and how much they can charge to not quite fix your ECU,, and the time that takes


may i suggest adaptronic 420c ECU then
( similar spec to the haltech, cheap, relative adaptable and much better than any micro )

i am a little guy,, i was then too ( in the later 90's )
long before I even had an internet connection or any national reputation and before many of these bulletin boards existed

this was NOT a sponsored car
haltech stood to make NOTHING from the extra time with a already sold unit now with a second owner and 5000 km away from the initial deal in a tiny closed perth market

its an example of 100% altruistic dedication and excellent customer service
-- something i can vouch for on other occasions
and i have experienced the response from the other players too,,
with microtech helps / sales /support/ repairs
( none good except once right back at the start in early 1992 )
wolf ( mid 90's ,, was painful then )
and with EMS stinger /4424 support ( and found them excellent )


for the OP,, each will have their own experiences
i dont deal with haltech USA and wont comment on that except there seems to be many good haltech dealers/ installers on this site

i agree 100% thats its piss poor that any modern ECU doesnt have the functionality to drive 5/6 wire stepper motors to a look up map
and that premix for some streetcars is not the best option

-- haltech ( and maybe some others ) will infact configure the EOMP to a simplified 4 wire stepper control and still operate it as well as you write the map


but,, for sure,, your not going to get better sales and support with micro
they are notoriusly poor - even for aussies
youre not getting a better ECU from them either,, thats also a certain



i recommend you hold tight onto your money and decide wisely

I'd have to agree. Haltech support has been awesome too me even though I've never actually bought one, only asked them questions about units I am installing.

Microtech on the other hand; I don't know if I can even name a worse company to deal with.
